FBI Director: Police Anxiety In Video Era Appears To Be Part Of Reason For Violent Crime Rise

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

Associated Press OCTOBER 23, 2015 — 3:35PM

CHICAGO — The FBI director says police anxiety in "the era of viral videos" appears to be part of the reason for rising violent crime in several big U.S. cities.

James Comey (KOH'-mee) spoke Friday at a University of Chicago Law School forum.

Comey referred to a spike in violence in several cities from Chicago to Dallas. He told several hundred students there may be multiple explanations for the increase in homicides and other violent crimes.

But he says officers nationwide tell him they fear the presence of cellphone video everywhere they go.

I just think now that we're seeing police captured on video, we're seeing the violent crimes they've been committing all along.

Chicago Mayor Blames Viral Police Brutality Videos For Rising Murder Numbers

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says that cell phone video recordings of police officers are interfering with the officers’ ability to do their jobs … and that is why the murder numbers are rising for his city.

Emanuel blamed the higher murder rate on “the chilling effects of high-profile protests against police brutality and officers’ fear of cell phone videos of their actions going viral.”

Just like in the past, because the local reporters are so lazy that they just take the police word for everything and never question them. Why? They like being able to "HANG" with the cops, and go riding with them. And like a lot of political figures, they like not getting arrested or fined. Because they are buds with the police.

police criminals? not clear from the article. and, if civilian criminals, how the HELL does the presence of cameras cause more civilian criminals? and, if police, wouldn't one think that the presence of cameras would cause LESS police criminal behaviour rather than more?

As long as the cops are being called on their crimes, and those crimes are being reported, they are less inclined to catch criminals. Like when they turned their backs on the mayor of New York after those 2 cops were killed, and stopped doing a lot of the traffic stops and serving warrants. And when Baltimore pretty much did the same thing in the last couple of months. Murders shot up there because the cops weren't doing their jobs.
Because we had the gall to record them committing crimes, as if they were regular people.

are exhibiting all the symptoms of fear and paranoia.

They thrive on law and order to keep them on top, and keep their money
flowing to them.

Anything that interferes with that is suspect in their eyes.

I just think they could be a little more common sense reasonable.

"Comey graduated from the College of William and Mary (1982), majoring in Chemistry and Religion. His senior thesis analyzed the liberal theologian Reinhold Niebuhr and the conservative televangelist Jerry Falwell, emphasizing their common belief in public action.[6] He received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Chicago Law School." (via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Comey). So, we are not talking anywhere near "rocket scientist" and based on his undergrad stuff with just a JD after, I think we can figure out how the numbknuts statement arrived.

"Officers nationwide tell him they fear the presence of cellphone video"

Really? And what the fuck would that have to do with spiking violent crime?
I can guarantee that there are way more citizens terrified of cops killing them than cops who fear cell phones.
What a bunch of entitled babies. Boo, hoo, get another fucking job, assholes.

The Supreme Court has already ruled that filming police in public is a protected 1st Amendment right as long as citizens aren't actively interfering with police.
IOW, the police have no expectation of privacy in public.
Any law making it illegal to record police in public is an illegal law and would have been struck down.

This is a war of perception to demonize recorders of police violence, specifically black folks who record the cops.
