DEMOCRATS KEEP POWER AFTER GOP CONCEDES KENTUCKY HOUSE SEAT

BY ADAM BEAM
ASSOCIATED PRESS

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Democrats will keep their majority in the state House of Representatives after Republicans conceded an eastern Kentucky House seat on Tuesday.

Republican Tony Quillen conceded to Democrat Lew Nicholls shortly after 7 p.m. in a district that hinged on union politics. The victory assures Democrats will have at least 51 members in the 100-seat House of Representatives, depending on the outcome of three other House races throughout the state.

Separately, Republicans claimed victory in Boyd and Casey counties as attorney Daniel Elliott defeated former Navy fighter pilot Bill Noelker. Elliott has to run in the May primary for a full two-year term, and could face off against Noelker, who has no primary opponent, in November.

Two other races remained too close to call.

Nicholls credited organized labor and public school teachers for powering him to victory in what he described as a rebuke of new Republican Gov. Matt Bevin's policies.

Senate or the Governorship.

We have plenty of would be Democrats, like an un-tapped Saudi Arabian oil field. Our problem is that the Tom Delay redistricting set the bar very high for a Democrat to win, and the Democratic Party in Texas is in shambles. Add to that, very few qualified candidates run for Democratic office down here.

Wendy Davis ran a terrible campaign, despite jumping out in the national media with her filibuster fame. She did a whole lot of private high dollar fundraisers, and not enough public speeches. In my area we have a population of around 300,000 according to the last census. She had two separate public events that were not advertised, except news announcers free mention of her being in town tomorrow. Most of the time spent was at private homes.

Sorry to bitch, just jealous of Kentucky, but happy for them at the same time! Someday it will change here. Once someone competent and not corrupt runs the DNC and decides that if he/she put some elbow grease in Texas registering voters. To complete the process, they could help by raising money to pay to take people to the DMV and pay for their license or state issued I.D. Get them registered to vote and take them to vote when it's time.

If we do that we can guarantee Democratic Presidential candidates would get a humongous advantage in electoral votes!

Republicans in this state vote ALEC and STUPID. They are like home wreckers in a marriage that just ruin everything good and decent in a relationship. I'm so grateful to have SANE democrats in the House that won't vote for CRAZY poorly thought out bills. It's also good to have checks and balances when the leadership is an extremist out-of-state Republican flake that claimed he had a degree from MIT but didn't. Ky could not have elected a worse BOZO, but we did.

We need to unwind this stupid mistake and get some really good candidates that have fire and progressive vision in them.
