Missouri Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer: ‘Find a way to neuter Elizabeth Warren’

Source: The Kansas City Star

The St. Louis-area congressman was speaking at an American Bankers Association conference.

The Massachusetts Democrat said she made the Star Wars comparison Thursday in response to comments made by Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, a Missouri Republican, suggesting Warren was the “Darth Vader of the financial services world” at an American Bankers Association conference Wednesday.

Warren said in a fundraising email she’s always seen herself “more as a Princess Leia-type,” who has never been tempted by the dark side. Warren called Luetkemeyer “a Wall Street yes-man.”

Warren said “they can call me Darth Vader or Voldemort or the Wicked Witch of Massachusetts for all I care — but I won’t be neutered.” She was responding to reports that Luetkemeyer suggested that they, “find a way to neuter her.”

Luetkemeyer is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and recently sponsored a bill to deregulate community banks. He has also led multiple congressional efforts to protect the payday loan industry, according to fortune.com.

Warren told MSNBC: “If Wall Street and their buddies in the Republican party want to launch an assault on financial regulations … all I can say is, let’s have that fight. I’m ready. I am not backing down.”

yet I think her being the only female Senator not to endorse Mrs. Clinton, and her steadfastness to remain neutral at this point speak volumes to me.
I have a dream ticket in mind, and she is on it.

She's remained independent.

She'll likely wait until there's a nominee.

I'm betting you don't think individuals who've endorsed Senator Sanders have 'sold out' as you put it.

When it's your choice it's okay huh?

that he is the candidate with whom Elizabeth Warren has more in common, politically. Therefore, if Elizabeth Warren were to choose Hillary over Bernie, she would be selling out by going against what she stands for.

It's Elizabeth Warren, with all the work she has done (for more than 20 years) against crooks.

How refreshing it would be to have a President like Elizabeth or Bernie who fought crooks instead of being one.

The kinds who try to pretend they are your friends are the worst kind.

Neoliberals try to pretend to be friends of the Third World too.

So they can bring them in as scabs, essentially.

"I was a Republican because I thought that those were the people who best supported markets". According to Warren, she began to vote Democratic in 1995 because she no longer believed that to be true, but she states that she has voted for both parties because she believed that neither party should dominate.

If you find some hint of far-left radicalism in that, or even if you don't of course, go ahead and believe. But,

Moderates on the left and right are far more like each other than they are like extremists.

Extremists on the left and right are far more like each other than they are like moderates.

Importantly, Warren was never a far-righter who made the short trip across the open end of the ideologic U to become a far-lefter. Nor did this conservative-leaning moderate but very smart female have a personality transplant and become all-liberal. She started voting Democratic more often because the GOP became extremist conservative and she wouldn't go there -- she chose to fight right-wing extremism in and out of the GOP.

My guess is that like most sensible people without delusions she has a preference but feels both would be acceptable to her. I literally cannot guess who this very independent-thinking woman's preference would be for. Sanders is pulling farther left, true, but she's also had years to observe any extremist-personality characteristics as a colleague. Note that virtually all of his colleagues who have endorsed said no to endorsing him.

I'm afraid there are some tremendous differences between people of some different personality types, though.

Look at how eager strong social conservatives are to believe any and all lies that support their viewpoints. It's virtually impossible to reach them with truths they don't want to believe. Then there is their aggressive hostility, frequently very intense, toward those they regard as "outsiders," which always includes at least 7 billion of the planet's people, and their ardent righteousness that causes them to view all their own actions as moral, no matter how immoral.

If we were all mostly like that, humanity would have died off eons ago.

She'd crush his marbles.
