Trump backs waterboarding and 'a lot more' after Brussels attacks
Source: Reuters
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said on Tuesday the United States should use waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques when questioning terror suspects, and renewed his call for tougher U.S. border security after the attacks in Brussels.
The billionaire businessman said authorities "should be able to do whatever they have to do" to gain information in an effort to thwart future attacks.
"Waterboarding would be fine. If they can expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding," Trump said on NBC's "Today" program, adding he believed torture could produce useful leads. "You have to get the information from these people."
Waterboarding, the practice of pouring water over someones face to simulate drowning as an interrogation tactic, was banned by President Barack Obama days after he took office in 2009. Critics call it torture.

(12,471 posts)That's why Sanders MUST be the Democratic Party candidate.
Independents do not like Clinton, nor do RepubliCONs. If we are to win the presidency, we must have at least some of them vote for the Democratic Party candidate.

Suggest torture..not a problem, we'll submit it to congress as soon as you go through it yourself (and anyone voting FOR it, would also of course have to go through it before their positive vote would count)
Lower Social security..now you and your family as politicians live at that level (wages withheld) for a period of time (say oh ...6 months)
and so on
just to keep politicians in touch with the people

(3,233 posts)Trumpf didn't exactly breaking new ground here. Dick Cheney has openly bragged about waterboarding and said he'd do it again! Hey, why wouldn't he? President Obama approved. Or was he just too busy looking forward to look backward? The past is the past, he said.
Right. Because the Holocaust is so yesterday.
Trumpf did the country a favor. Let's have that discussion.

(1,400 posts)In my opinion. It isn't good versus bad. It is just a battle for resources and territory.
Waterboarding someone we call "guilty" is just as terrible as beheading someone we call innocent. Iraq actually belongs to the Iraqis, and Saddam was their problem. If you have a problem with Saddam, don't buy his oil. See how long he lasts.
Of course a Trump supporter wouldn't agree because we're the world's bully and can do what we want, and everyone knows it. We're the USA so there!
And that is the problem.
There has never been one single Republican ever ask themselves why they want to kill us.
