Source: The Guardian - UK
Florida senator Marco Rubio has said women infected with the Zika virus should not be allowed to have abortions, even if their babies have microcephaly, the severe developmental disorder than can result from infection with the disease.

If Im going to err, Im going to err on the side of life, the Republican told Politico. Rubio, who has championed Zika funding bills in the Senate, also blamed Democrats for the failure to pass such federal aid.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures, Florida is the state second-worst affected by Zika, after New York, but is the only state to have infections caused by local mosquitoes. Most Zika cases in the US have been found in people who travelled to affected countries and territories.
On Sunday, the Florida governor, Rick Scott, told NBC that despite his state having identified 16 cases of mosquito-borne Zika infections, what were doing is working.

(6,096 posts)Imma just ignore the obvious commentary about yet another man telling women he doesn't know what they should or should not do with their bodies. I'm sure someone else will gladly be along to cover that rant.
Considering that an infected fetus can re-infect the mother time and again over the course of the pregnancy if it is allowed to continue, which only increases the risk of the spread of the disease.... Rubio isn't erring on the side of human life.
He's erring on the side of the life of a VIRUS.
There is evidence that Zika is linked to Guillain-Barre Syndrome in adults- where people's own immune system attacks their body's nervous system.
Rubio is erring on the side of loss of muscle function and paralysis.
Zika can cause internal bleeding and has confirmed deaths linked to it.
His stance isn't pro life. It's ignorantly, dangerously pro-birth.
F*ck that guy.

until the child is ready to exit it and be a member of "their" society - at which point they will "pay" for the "Pukes" version of righteousness by insisting they live in a "complete home" (both parents, working dad, stay-at-home mom, 2 more kids, 1 dog, and a fresh-cut lawn), do not expect the gov't to assist in any way ("Hey, you screwed, you're screwed!" , and continue to vote in low-lives like Rubio to protect "their" way of life.

(3,335 posts)Is champion'ing a Zika funding bill in the Senate, the same as passing it? I didn't think so.
Marco, when one can take your 'championed bill' to the BANK, than we might let you have an opinion. Until then, we don't give a damn what you think.
