"WE HAD ROCKS THROWN AT US":Trump aide Manafort implicated in pro-Russian protests against US troops
Source: Fusion
Lt. Colonel Tom Domans introduction to Ukraine, at 4 a.m. on May 27, 2006, was not a warm one. We had rocks thrown at us. Rocks hit Marines. Buses were rocked back and forth. We were just trying to get to our base.
Doman and his 112 reserve Marines and sailors were boarding the buses after dark, with backup from Ukrainian special forces, to get to a compound where they would lay the groundwork for Sea Breeze 2006, a larger international training exercise set to involve 3,500 troops from the U.S., Ukraine, and 12 NATO partner countries. But hundreds of protesters seemed to have come out of nowhere to confront them.
Instead, the Marines ended up hemmed in by angry locals in Feodosia, a Ukrainian resort city on the Black Sea. We had people jeering us and protesting against us until we basically left the country, Doman says. The Americans couldnt go outside; they couldnt reach their supply ship in the towns port. Some protesters wielded what Col. Bill Black, the Marines commanding officer, jokingly called Ukrainian cocktails plastic bottles filled with diesel fuel.

A decade later, the aborted exercise is arousing new interest: American diplomatic cables and Ukrainian prosecutors say the anti-US, anti-NATO protests that threatened these Marines were largely partisan plants, organized by politicians who consulted with Paul Manafort, now the prominent campaign aide to presidential candidate Donald Trump. Manaforts long-standing, lucrative relationship with the now-banned Ukrainian Party of Regions and its leader, deposed president Viktor Yanukovych, has been the subject of intense media scrutiny since his elevation as Trumps campaign manager this past spring. But the Yanukovych camps reputed key role in the Feodosia protests raises serious questions about whether a key aide to a would-be American president was aware that his foreign clients alleged actions may have endangered US policy goals and US troops.

(23,065 posts)OMG, this makes a weird kind of sense to me now. Trump wants Hillary killed and chaos to erupt so he can claim the presidency. He already has an experienced saboteur working for him, maybe he's putting that to use in promoting the death of his rival or civil war if she wins?

(1,242 posts)that Manafort is working with Don ..... From the article
" Fusion made multiple attempts to contact Manafort and other representatives of the Trump campaign, asking them what role, if any, Manafort played in the 2006 protests that threatened US Marines on Ukrainian soil and forced cancellation of the USs military exercise. Fusion also sought to ask Manafort whether his clients alleged spoiling of Sea Breeze conflicted with his lifelong commitment to Republican government and strong US foreign policy. "
What have / could they do here with election ..... meaning violence , protests
I hope there is investigation and all guilty held accountable

Here's one enemy of the US that I wouldn't mind seeing in Gitmo, getting the 'lot worse than waterboarding' treatment that dRumpf is currently advocating.
Manafort organizing russian gov goons, to whip up a mob to attack US marines, in a Nato exercise in Ukraine. Repugs are traitors.

(9,111 posts)Though I'm pretty sure he already has an in with the aryans, if he somehow got stuck in with the hoi polloi.
Doubt he'll be much help to them in a dust up with the NOI (rank and filers, sure their leadership loves him), or La Eme or Nuestra Familia.

(9,111 posts)and there was one scene where Hill was in the relatively tough and nasty Lewisburg Pen with a bunch of other organized crime felons. G. Gordon Liddy was over at nearby Allenwood with a bunch of white collar crooks, and led them in a revolt over the 'bad food'. That's the time when Liddy ate the rat.
Hill and his buddies heard about Liddy's little insurrection while it was occurring, and they all immediately applied for transfer to Allenwood. They got the transfer, because Liddy and his merry band of insurrectionists all got transferred to Atlanta Fed Pen where, in Hill's words, 'the Moslems and the Aryans were knifing each other over the doughnuts'. So a bunch of bunks opened up at Allenwood, and the more hardened blue collar criminals slid right in there, using their bureaucratic knowledge of the federal prison system.
Fun times.

(60,071 posts)The Fuhrer was G Gordon Liddy's first political hero. Liddy was a sickly, asthmatic child when he grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey, in the 1930s. The town was full of ethnic Germans who idolized Hitler. Liddy was made to salute the Stars and Stripes Nazi-style by the nuns at his school; even now, he admits, "at assemblies where the national anthem is played, I must suppress the urge to snap out my right arm." His beloved German nanny taught him that Hitler had -- through sheer will-power -- "dragged Germany from weakness to strength."
This gave Liddy hope "for the first time in my life" that he too could overcome weakness. When he listened to Hitler on the radio, it "made me feel a strength inside I had never known before," he explains. "Hitler's sheer animal confidence and power of will [entranced me]. He sent an electric current through my body." He describes seeing the Nazis' doomed technological marvel the Hindenberg flying over New Jersey as an almost religious experience. "Ecstatic, I drank in its colossal power and felt myself grow. Fear evaporated and in its place came a sense of personal might and power."

(9,111 posts)His love of Hitler, Riefenstahl, and Nietzsche puts his choice of the title 'Will' in a whole new light.
I knew he was a Nixon nazi, and a repuglinazi, I just never knew he was also an avowed, open, nazi nazi.

(9,111 posts)Smedley Butler served the country well, shame those traitors got away with their treason. I know about the pre-war financial connections with our righties helping the nazis out, Rockefellers Duponts with IG Farben, General Robert Wood from Sears helping the nazis, Hearst helping the nazis, giving Mussolini a by line, National Geographic providing favorable coverage for Hitler's germany, Henry Ford giving Hitler 30,000 reichsmarks every year for his birthday, Prescott with his Union Bank nazi money laundering scheme with Thyssen and Schact, Mellons holding Bayer's patents for them, Dulles' treason while he was head of OSS Europe in Switzerland, McCloy and Dulles torpedoing the de-nazification of Germany post WWII, etc., etc.
Before WWII, they lurved them some nazis, during WWII they lurved them some nazis. But after WWII, they lurved them some nazis. Their party is full of despicable anti-American nazi lovers, hence dRumpf.

(9,111 posts)It's an academic discussion; interesting, but I don't have a strong stake. I think that the decision to give up personal value choices to the oligopic (oligolopic?) org has intent, and rewarding members of that org who best externalize costs and maximize profits via (immoral or amoral) methods -- that decision is purposeful, has intent. Intended to cause innate behaviors. But that isn't an argumentative position I want to pursue vituperatively with you.
That's where they are, where they're coming from, either way. In the o.p. story, the big money people find Manafort useful and charming. He thinks it's good to organize a foreign group of thugs to assault US troops. The big money people don't pull the plug on him, though they obviously don't want Putin to take over their game and nationalize their property, resources, cash, fixed capital. Whatever Manafort was pulling, it wasn't purely for personal gain, though. The people who look on the tool of their oligopoly that is Manafort see him as performing a useful function. Delegitimize and degrade the enemy US prez and his government's capabilities? Troops get to suffer collateral damage?
