Donald Trump goes to Louisiana flooding site, spends a minute handing out Play-Doh, leaves

Source: Daily News Bin

The Governor of Louisiana warned Donald Trump not to visit the flooded disaster area of the state if he was only coming for a photo op, which would have created a traffic jam and diverted law enforcement away from helping with the recovery effort. So instead Trump showed up with a small truck of supplies and proceeded to spend a total of forty-nine seconds handing out those supplies before giving up and leaving. Worse, the “supplies” he handed out to flood victims were cartons of Play-Doh. No, seriously.

Photos of Donald Trump taken by those on the scene and posted to social media reveal that Donald Trump spent less than a minute handing out supplies – just 49 seconds according to at least one bystander – and he more or less just handed the supplies to Mike Pence the whole time. But in a storyline so strange that it wouldn’t be believable if there weren’t photographic evidence, Trump was literally handing out the children’s toy Play-Doh, as if that were of any help to those people in Louisiana who had just lost their homes or livelihoods to flooding.

When Trump wasn’t busy spending a few seconds handing boxes of glorified clay to the survivors of a tragedy, he was seen signing autographs> for random people, and tying up the first responders who had been tasked with the recovery effort.

In other words, Donald Trump took an already bad situation in Louisiana and made it harmfully and embarrassingly worse for his own personal amusement. Some might argue that it’s a metaphor for what he’s spent the past year doing to the Republican Party. Trump had an opportunity to make the Louisiana situation work for him – but the optics of how he conducted himself have likely erased any perceptual advantage he might have gained if he’d done it thoughtfully.

It would be massive for President Obama, and would definitely impede rescue efforts with all the security it would entail. I don't have to see a photo op to know he's got this. He's proven himself time and time again. So has Hillary. I think a lot of people are afraid that Americans aren't as smart as we are (haha) and will fall for Trump's endless phony pivot act. We've already seen what lies beneath and it's pretty damn ugly. He's a Dorian Gray portrait come to life.

I think most Americans have become a little smarter after the 8-year W fiasco. On the other hand, a few have willfully made themselves a helluva lot dumber.

What kind of candidate makes a campaign rally and photo op in the middle of a disaster? If he wants to help, send some workers from Trump Company to help gut houses. Or write a $1 million check like Taylor Swift.

But signing autographs for a bunch of Louisiana Tea Party losers who are to blame for Louisianas woes is shameful.

90. Hasbro Gift of Play™ program & Trump's free toys
Tue Sep 13, 2016, 01:13 PM
Sep 2016

Republican conservatives are just too easy for Trump to scam. This is the Hasbro "Gift of Play™" program. I believe that's probably where Trump got the free toys that were donated, from their manufacturing facility in Batten Rouge after the truck drove a few blocks from the factory to Trump's photo-op location so it looked like Trump's people drove down with the truck from NY. If Trump wasn't looking for some PR Hasbro woulda just given them (and any relief supplies) out at the factory. Some say this factory is only a shipping depot for toys manufactured by Hasbro in China. If so, Trump gave out Chinese Hasbro toys, but that wouldn't be a surprise given his penchant for using imported materials and screwing the American worker! Hasbro donates $9 million/yr to needy children via this program. http://corporate.hasbro.com/en-us/community-relations/gift-of-play

He just didn't want to hurt his back - you know he is in excellent health tho - by grabbing something heavy, you know like flats of water. The Play-doh makes sense in the bigger picture of kids being displaced and needing something to play with, along with bedding, clothes, food and water. But you would think for someone as media savvy as Trump (sarcasm) he would pick out something more "presidential" to hand out - like Make America Great Again hats

Trump Disobeys Louisiana Governor to Bravely Deliver Play-Doh to Flood Victims (VIDEO)
Nathan Wellman | August 19, 2016

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump defied the wishes of Louisiana Governor Edwards today to briefly participate in unloading Play-Doh off of a supply truck while being surrounded by media.

Governor Edwards, currently responding to some of the worst floods in his state since Hurricane Katrina, had previously said of Trump in a statement that “We welcome him to Louisiana but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm.”

Trump went to Louisiana anyway, having previously criticized President Obama for “working on his golf game” while Louisiana citizens suffered.

Campaign manager Kellyanne Conway insisted that the visit was not a photo op, praising Trump for acting “presidential” and describing his stay there as “a decidedly nonpolitical event, no press allowed, going to help people on the ground who are in need.”

Edwards said he is "not complaining in any way about our federal partnership."

He added that while the President can visit whenever he'd like, he'd prefer him to wait "a week or two" because such visits require local police and first responders to help block roads and provide security. "

Sat Aug 20, 2016, 03:51 AM

for a photo op, the President ensures that FEMA functions as it should and that LA officials get what they need to help their citizens. His staying away was at the request of the Dem Gov who is himself working very hard to ensure that his people are getting what they need.

Trump's reaction here is classic: if President, he would go to disaster areas, hand out Play-Doh (or something else that is not needed) and sign autographs so that he can trumpet how glorious HE is. But he would care little about what is actually happening and would forget about it the moment he flits away. He has NO concern whatsoever for actual suffering of real people.

I haven't been spending as much time on DU these days so have not seen the "concern trolls" as much. Or they could already be on my Iggy List, from which I have removed no one so far. But they are likely among the "usual suspects" and their posts should be ignored.

70. And yet, Louisiana will almost surely go red in November.

The state hasn't gone blue since 1996, so I doubt that trend will change anytime soon. The Hairy Hemorrhoid drops in and hands out useless garbage for 30 seconds, and some of the rubes not only intend to vote for him(!) but wanted his autograph, even!

The really infuriating part is that if Obama had been there, sleeves rolled up, clearing debris, helping rebuild with his own two hands, they'd still snark and snipe at him. Instead, at the governor's request, he delayed his visit so it wouldn't complicate things, and is catching shit for it from the right.

When one considers the way some conservatives behave, one has to wonder if human evolution is at a standstill or something...

I remember Obama winning me over in 2008 by talking to an interviewer about campaign issues while he shoveled, literally, helping people in a flood zone where a flood had just occurred.

I don't think he's perfect by any means, but I'm damned glad I voted for him twice, and I'm very proud of what he's done for our country both at home and abroad. I'm confident Hillary will be a fantastic President, but I'm really going to miss Obama when he leaves office.

The hardest thing to stomach during his Administration has been the disrespect and vitriol thrown at him and his family. No matter what he does, certain people are just resolved to hate him. I have conservative friends and family who disagree with him, but almost all of them like him personally. They just disagree with his politics. That I can respect, at least. It's the ones who just have an irrational hatred of him that really bother me.

Unfortunately, we're seeing that irrational hatred on full display again, aimed at Hillary as it has been for decades. I admire her strength of character and toughness, among other things. The best way to silence the haters is to succeed, and that's what she's doing.

On and on went the star-struck morons, as they eagerly awaited Their Hero, or as they basked in the magic of the moment.

One guy wanted to pitch his idea for a reality TV show about flood recovery to Their Hero (I shit you not) but ran out of time when they met.

There is a Democratic governor now, so that's definitely a step in the right direction. Whether that translates into the state going blue for Hillary, I dunno. I'd like to think after Louisianians saw the Hairy Hemorrhoid's true colors in a disaster situation that they'd know better than to vote for him, but... I just dunno.

Don't think it'll matter much if it goes blue or not, though. The way Trump keeps lurching from one trainwreck to another on the campaign trail, I'm thinking Hillary is going to absolutely demolish him in an electoral landslide.

Do they qualify for LBN source now?

I gave been a DU member for over 10 years and I remember when LBN was indeed LBN from vetted sources. What happened?

I don't read their website at all. I'm asking if it is now an accepted, vetted source of LBN.

The stupid shit Trump is doing is crazier than the material they create trying to mock him.
