Report: Trump discussed continuing ‘Apprentice’ from White House
Source: The Hill
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump reportedly discussed with an NBC executive continuing The Apprentice reality show from the White House if he were elected president, long before he launched his bid.
The anecdote was reported in June by Vanity Fair contributing editor Sarah Ellison, but appeared to go largely unnoticed until she was interviewed on "The Takeaway" podcast over the weekend.
(NBCUniversal Chief Executive Steve Burke and Trump) outlined, presumably fantastically, that Trump should run for president; and on the off chance that he won, he would continue to star in The Apprentice from within the White House, Ellison wrote about a 2011 conversation between the two.
Ellison discusses in the podcast Trumps fascination with TV ratings, but notes that the networks, not the GOP nominee, are making money off his media strategy.

How's he going to react when they tell him he can't run any of his businesses if he's President?

WASHINGTON When or if President Donald J. Trump takes the oath of office on Jan. 20, 2017, he might not settle for just being the guy in the Oval Office. The eccentric billionaire could add the new title to his already existing preamble as chairman, CEO and president of The Trump Organization.
It would be his choice whether President Trump still presided over his business empire.
There are ethics rules that cover conflicts of interest faced by executive branch employees from the Treasury secretary down to a lowly clerk and they can require people to recuse from certain issues or divest stock and other property. But those rules do not apply to any elected official.
Theres very little you can do with respect to the presidents financial conflicts of interest, said Richard Painter, a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School and former ethics czar in the George W. Bush White House.

(21,737 posts)I have heard him make a couple of other remarks that make me suspect he intends to keep on making business deals after he is elected.
But I haven't heard any media figures pick up on this question.

(108,973 posts)yes, he'd give the companies to his children to run.
Which is NOT a blind trust.

Presidents are not subject to the same ethics rules that govern other executive branch employees, but they often take steps, such as setting up blind trusts or handing over control of their assets, to avoid even an appearance of impropriety. But Trump has not been entirely clear on how he would disentangle himself from his complex corporate holdings if he became president. At one point, he suggested he would place his assets in a blind trust "or something." But he also said this trust would be controlled by his children, who would continue to run his businesses. Blind trusts cannot be controlled by an individual's family members. Trump's campaign did not respond to a request for comment on how a conflict of interest with the Old Post Office, or any other property, would be handled.

(1,242 posts)Don has a conflict of Interest ..... he can 't be President .....
" Earlier this week, Mother Jones reported that Donald Trump's loans from the German-based Deutsche Banktotaling at least $100 million and possibly much morewould pose a significant conflict of interest, should Trump, the GOP's presumptive nominee, become president. After all, the bank was recently caught manipulating markets around the world (and had to pay $2.5 billion in fines), and it has tried to evade US laws aimed at curtailing risky financial shenanigans and has attempted to influence the US government via lobbying.
