Syria Jarablus: Turkish tanks roll into northern Syria

Source: BBC

A dozen Turkish tanks and other vehicles have rolled across the Syrian border after heavy shelling of an area held by so-called Islamic State (IS).

Military sources told Turkish media 70 targets in the Jarablus area had been destroyed by artillery and rocket strikes, and 12 by air strikes.

Turkish-backed Syrian rebels are accompanying the Turkish advance.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the operation was aimed against both IS and Kurdish fighters.

U.S. Joins Turkish Forces to Launch Push Against Islamic State in Syria

Turkish and American military forces launched a major offensive in northwestern Syria against Islamic State militants early Wednesday as they try to sever the extremist group’s vital supply routes and deter Kurdish fighters from seizing a key border town, according to officials from both countries.

Turkish special forces, aided by American military advisers, U.S. drones and Turkish artillery units, moved into northern Syria before dawn as part of the coordinated campaign to push Islamic State out of a strategic town on the Euphrates River, officials said.

Turkish jets bombed Islamic State forces inside Syria, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency, in what are believed to be the first airstrikes by Turkey inside Syria since November, when Turkish pilots shot down a Russian warplane that briefly strayed into Turkish airspace. Turkish tanks also moved into Syria as the offensive gathered momentum early Wednesday, the news agency said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Turkish-backed Syrian rebels were massed at the border, poised to retake Jarabulus, one of Islamic State’s last remaining gateways used by the group to ferry reinforcements and supplies from Turkey into its de facto capital in Raqqa.

2. it doesn't make sense that Turley would both "reinforce and supply" ISIS and bomb it

More likely: ISIS (Saudi Sunni mercenaries aligned with Turkey and Qatar) is the placeholder and excuse for the invasion of Syria so that the natural gas pipelines can be built from Qatar to the EU.

Truth is the first casualty of war.

With the capabilities of our military, severing their supply routes should not be a tough task. Give them free reign to attack targets when they present themselves, 24/7, and the route would be severed in a week.
