Campaign 2016 updates: Bernie Sanders launches political organization to further his progressive ide
Source: Los Angeles Times
His campaign is over, yet Bernie Sanders says that the movement he helped create one that ignited a youthful, liberal following during the Democratic primary will press onward.
...snip...
In a speech livestreamed Wednesday night from Burlington, Vt., Sanders did not note the group's status as a 501(c)(4), but stressed that his populist message would endure.
He noted that his campaign helped push forward a progressive platform at the Democratic National Convention last month. The platform calls for a $15-per-hour federal minimum wage, expansion of Social Security and setting a price on greenhouse gas emissions.
If anyone thinks that that document and what is in that platform is simply going to be resting on a shelf somewhere accumulating dust, they are very mistaken, Sanders said. "We are going to bring that platform alive and make it the blueprint for moving the Democrats forward.

(10,856 posts)He said that his group plans to endorse over 100 progressive candidates on the local, state and federal level.
He mentioned someone running for school board and U S Senate candidate Russ Feingold to show the range.

(30,657 posts)How is it trivia whether or not someone is a member of the Democratic party when we are on a Democratic discussion board?
Bernie needs to stop taking credit for eighty or so years of hard work done by a party he disdains.
Bernie tries to say he ended private prisons. Obama did that. He started that before BS started his campaign.
The only thing I can see in the platform that might be a concession to Bernie is the $15.00 minimum wage. But that proposal is possible because of Obama's 2009 stimulus act, which Sanders badmouthed at the time.
We all know the hard work done on health care was started by Truman, expanded under LBJ and even more under Obama. Hillary will continue to improve and refine health care in this country.
"Our" Revolution is experiencing so much infighting that it will never get off the ground. Good. We need people out canvassing, phone banking, putting up signs, registering voters, etc., so that the best qualified candidate in my lifetime will win the election. Move on from the primary. Focus on supporting Hillary.

(30,657 posts)In the past, I have been a county Democratic treasurer and chairperson. I know the history of my party. Who says you are unwelcome if you are doing the same? And, as an office holder, are you supporting the nominee? If not, why are you here, or, for that matter, holding a local office?
I am doing my part, thank you.
