Source: TMZ

TMZ broke the story ... Brown allegedly pulled a gun on a guest at his home early Tuesday morning after an argument ... she claims over jewelry.

This person, unless he stops and gets help, is the next early corpse.

Chris Brown has zero tracks to compare to New Edition or Bobby Brown's solo #1 hits.

(7,681 posts)Don't Be Cruel sold seven million copies, spent six weeks at number one, and five of its songs were top ten hits.
My Prerogative, Every Little Step, Roni - these were giant hits. His videos were on MTV constantly. He was huge.

(135,425 posts)Chris Brown has produced more, gotten paid more, and hung on to his money better--even with all his "issues."
I'm not a fan, BTW. But what is, is. MTV ain't the way kids get their music anymore, so that's kind of like trying to equate the gramophone to the transistor radio....
This has nothing to do with me defending my era. Bobby Brown was and is far from my kind of music. I don't listen to him and didn't in 1988.
But he was a bigger star then than Chris Brown is now. It's a fact.
And it doesn't matter that MTV isn't a factor now. That's irrelevant. It was a huge factor then and his videos dominated it.
btw, those same videos have huge view counts on youtube, the place where many kids do get there music.
this one here has 25,142,293 views. Over 25 million views for a song that came out 17 years before youtube existed.

(135,425 posts)Chris Brown is a massive earner with an enormous discography. He sells out routinely, he collaborates with other "mega-stars" and he's worth a fortune. Bobby Brown had a few pop hits, went to jail, and lived off his wife. He's still living off her memory and down to his last two million.
Neither artist is a paragon of virtue or a role model, but that's a separate issue.

(3,261 posts)It's much easier circa the 2000s to have a string of hit songs than it was in the late 80s. It was also MUCH harder to crossover from R&B than it is today. A career like Chris Brown's doesn't seem that impressive to me given the times we live in. He's not that musically gifted. It's very hard to truly break out as a "star." Even someone like Drake who is very successful doesn't really have the A-list musician aura. If you swap the artists and their eras, I think Bobby Brown would have been even more successful now while Chris Brown would have been a blip on the screen 25 years ago. For all of his faults, Booby Brown has far more actual talent.
MADem
(135,425 posts)"Musically gifted" often does not determine who is famous and successful, and who is not.
But 48 million is a great deal more than 2. Billboard hits are what they are. The bottom line is what it is.

That's kind of the parallel that I'm thinking.
BB ended up in jail, so did CB--and it looks like he might be going back, seeing as he's tossing a duffel bag of guns and drugs out his window....

(290 posts)It's TMZ. They report on it if a celebrity breaks a nail. This guy is a known woman-beater who was just arrested for an altercation with a woman that involved a weapon. I'm not saying it's "stop the presses!" breaking news on all the major outlets, but for a celebrity-focused news outlet, it's certainly newsworthy.
If he hadn't beaten the shit out of Rihanna, he wouldn't be known far and wide as an abuser of women. If he hadn't pulled a gun on a woman in this incident, he wouldn't have been arrested for doing so. His poor choices have resulted in his reputation and his problems, not racism.
Not every damn thing in the world boils down to racism, you know.

His idea was to put his guns and drugs into a duffle bag and throw it out the window?
Terminally stupid. This is why you have high priced lawyers to come and get the illegal items after you move them to a secret (very secret) hiding spot (must be inside something else metal) and you have had the lawyer talk to everyone at your party (including the uninvited guests) and paid them off make sure that the story is muddled (someone else had a gun and you yelled at the girl or there was never a gun there or whatever).
Going to cost you $250,000 or so but you avoid jail.

(135,425 posts)The search was sparked by a call for help from a woman who said she had been threatened by the performer, police sources said, with officers first arriving at Browns home in the 5000 block of Corbin Avenue about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman, Baylee Curran, told The Times that Brown, who has had several previous run-ins with the law, pointed a gun at her during a violent rage before she ran outside to call police.
Curran said she and a friend had gone to Browns home with a business associate, who was invited by the musician. She wanted to talk to Brown about future projects, she said.
When she went inside, a handful of people was milling about and chatting, Curran said.
Curran said she eventually went to Browns backyard to get some fresh air. Her confrontation with the musician erupted soon after she walked back into the house, she said.
A man was showcasing diamond bracelets, necklaces and watches inside the home, she said. Curran said she began to admire a diamond cross necklace.
I dont know if it was Chris friend or how he was related, but thats when he told me to back away from the diamond necklace and started cussing me out and calling me names, she said. Thats when Chris pulled his gun and told me to Get out. He said Im sick of you girls, get the F out!

Singer Chris Brown joined the Republican Party today, citing its stances on homosexuality and women's rights as motivation.
In an interview with E! news in New York, the controversial recording artist explained that he's become more politically aware in the past few months and was amazed to discover how much he and Republicans have in common.
"I didn't even know anything about politics," Brown explained, "but my business manager said I should start making charitable and political donations for tax purposes. So I started researching all about the parties and the candidates. And it turns out these Republicans are for real!
"The GOP, they're all about puttin' women back in their place. Makin' them submit. Just being like 'Bitch, make me a sandwich'. And I love that. Its old school. You don't hear that enough nowadays.
"And they're legit with the gays too. Its like who wants to see that s**t? Ain't nobody wanna see two dudes making out in a church. Keep it to yourselves."

Chris Brown is a multi-platinum recording artist known for hits like Kiss Kiss, With You and Forever and for dating the much more successful female singer Rihanna.
It is his notoriously rocky relationship with that Barbados-born performer which has kept him in the news in recent years. He has repeatedly made misogynistic comments regarding the relationship and was convicted in 2009 for a brutal domestic violence incident.
While he says he believes in a balanced budget, sound money and a strong military, Brown says it was his struggles with the law that most informed his decision to become a Republican.
"For me, the key moment was when I found out the Republicans tried to stop the Violence Against Women Act," he explains. "I was like 'Hell ya, these motherf**kers got my back!'
"Where I come from if somebody steps ups and fights for you, then you got a duty to pay them back. So I'm joining up, and I'll be campaigning for all the candidates in 2014.

Chris Brown has been released from police custody after being arrested Tuesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, tweeted early Wednesday morning that the musician had been released, adding, "The allegations against him are demonstrably false."
Thanks to everyone for their support and well wishes. Chris is out and well. The allegations against him are demonstrably false #TeamBreezy

The arrest at Brown's Los Angeles home took place after a nearly 14-hour standoff, the Associated Press reported, and ended when police obtained a search warrant to enter the residence.

(16,168 posts)The woman who accused Chris Brown of pointing a gun at her allegedly wrote a text message shortly after the incident saying she was going to frame Chris with the gun allegation out of revenge ... but she denies sending any such message.
TMZ has obtained a copy of the text, sent to an acquaintance named Safari -- no relation to Nicki Minaj's ex. The text was purportedly sent Tuesday at 2:57 AM, shortly after Baylee Curran was kicked out of Chris' house. It reads:
"Hey safari don't you know this freak Chris brown is kicking me out of his house because I called his friend jewelry fake can you come get me my Uber is messing up if not I'm going to set him up and call the cops and say that he tried to shoot me and that will teach him a lesson I'm going to set his ass up. Lol come get me."
He responded, "Really that's f*** up you ain't going to do that your wrong if you do."
We've learned the alleged text is in possession of Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, who's trying to authenticate it.
