Granholm brings delegates to their feet cheering auto rescue

Source: LATimes

In one of the most fiery speeches so far of the night, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm roused cheering delegates to their feet as she shouted out President Obama’s actions on behalf of the automotive industry, taking swipes at GOP challenger Mitt Romney along the way.

Granholm quipped that Romney loves cars so much “they have their own elevator.”

But she said when “the entire auto industry, and the lives of over 1 million hard-working Americans, teetered on the edge of collapse … almost nobody had the guts to help us – not the banks, not the private investors and not Bain Capital.”

“Then, in 2009, the cavalry arrived: our new president, Barack Obama!” Granholm said.

I believe she said the Supreme Court was the only position she was interested in. She would be a great addition to the Obama administration in the second term though.

I miss her in MI. It has been horrible going from her to Snyder.

but I thought her delivery was a bit cheesy. It played well to a DNC crowd but it would have come off as seriously hokey sounding to anybody else. That's not to take away from her message or anything because one of the most clear distinctions on this campaign is the guy who saved the Auto Industry versus the supposed Michigander who wanted Detroit to die.

Lots of great speeches throughout the week but I thought this one fell a bit short.

I have planned a number of events of all types (auctions to weddings), and for the most successful event, you have got to focus on the whole, not just the individual parts.

Her speech was short but delivery powerful, fiery, and with unequivocal conviction. It was just right to wake up the crowd before the next speaker.

Long speeches with serious content, short speeches with a big punch, new faces, famous faces, and great timing - the DNC was MASTERFULLY planned and knocked it out the ballpark.

Favorite part of the convention for me? The pundits who were having a field day with the crestfallen, deadpan faces of Repubs whose biggest criticism was the level of the sound system or the interpretation of the weather forecast.

Frankly awesome! I wanted to shout, more, more MORE!
