Vice President Joe Biden depicted the key difference between President Obama and Mitt Romney as one of empathy in his speech to the Democratic National Convention Thursday night.
I got to see firsthand what drove this man, Biden said. His profound concern for the average American.
Bidens speech made explicit what Michelle Obamas masterful Tuesday address had only implied: One of the candidates understands ordinary people, one doesnt, and the reason is their backgrounds.
We had a pretty good idea of what all those families and Americans in trouble were going through in part because our families have gone through similar struggles, he said.

(582 posts)There are those who say unions killed the middle class. Either that or opine that welfare took away the will to work your way up to a better life. There are even those who say that the sheer burden on the 53% who pay federal taxes to support the 47% who pay no taxes has sapped their will to succeed.
Bull hockey.
What killed the middle class was the pass to get into the upper echelons of the business world, the MBA.
Presidents of companies have ownership, and show a feeling of their workers being partners in their enterprise.
Corporations do not originate new ideas, they buy out the entrepreneurs who develop new businesses.
Union wages hell, try coolie wages instead.
What is the average middle management wage in corporations? Average CEO wage? Average workers wage?
Small business survival rate. Big box crushed the family business.
Forgive the bullet statement format. I want to spend a few hours researching and filling out this rant. Stay tuned.

(1,309 posts)I love Joe but in this case he is pulling punches and misses the mark. The truth is much more infuriating -- Mitt Romney and his ilk are not focusewd on the bottom line because if they were they wo uld cooperate and accept the Presidents plans for jobs and the economy. No , their goals are much more sinister. They know just like the democrats that a rising tide raises all boats but they judge their success by how much more power they have over the citizenry. Until we are properly weakened, until we are on bended knee , begging for their crumbs they will not be satisfied. They realise we are the golden goose providing the wealth so needed for them to maintain and increase their power but they also realize that if the middle class prospers, we will reduce their power. So rather than lose any power and in the goal of increasing that power, not just by their continued accumulation of wealth but also by their restricting our prosperity, they are willing to forgo some added wealth now in the hope of extracting much greater obedience from us, the less deserving who just don't get it and cannot see their obvious superiority.
Their goal is greatly increased power and to do this they must take down the middle class. That was working pretty good, until Obama missed up their plans and people started fighting back. The war on the middle class is not about money. It is about power. Vote Obama/Biden and democrats down the line. They are on our side.
