Kyrsten Sinema swears in to Congress using law book instead of religious book

Source: The Hill

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) took her ceremonial oath of office holding her hand on a copy of the Constitution rather than the Bible.

Vice President Mike Pence can be seen in video of the moment ending Sinema's oath by saying the standard words, "so help you God?" to which Sinema also responded, "I do." He then went to say that he looks forward to working with her in Congress.

A spokesperson for the senator confirmed to The Arizona Republic that the book was from the Library of Congress and contained texts of the U.S. and Arizona constitutions.

"Kyrsten always gets sworn in on a Constitution simply because of her love for the Constitution," Sinema’s spokesman John LaBombard told the local publication. However, LaBombard did not reportedly address Sinema’s religious views.

10. Seems to me they should all be placing their hand on the Constitution,

and then there should be a test to check and make sure they're read and understood it -- before they're allowed to vote on anything.

12. This has been the oath for the last 60 years or so

“I, , do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

You know a few of them have failed. I bet a few of them have violated this oath if they colluded with Russia or opposed constitutional rights for people they don't like.

5. Republicans should show their beliefs by following suit.

They should swear in with their hands on Rump's "Art of the deal". That's the only thing they worship.

13. And the congress critters would expense it,

So Rump would get his books sold at government expense.

Special edition, hard bound, signed and price inflated revisions.

11. Congresscritters ought to be required to pass a college-level test on the Constitution.

How can they swear to uphold it if they aren’t intimately familiar with its provisions?

(snip)
More than a dozen documents and books -- including the US Constitution, Eastern Orthodox Bible and Quran -- were used to swear in officials of various ethnic and religious backgrounds.

So cool...........
