Rosenstein expected to depart DOJ in coming weeks once new attorney general confirmed
Source: ABC News
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to leave his role in the coming weeks, multiple sources familiar with his plans told ABC News.
Rosenstein has communicated to President Donald Trump and White House officials his plan to depart the administration around the time William Barr, Trump's nominee for attorney general, would take office following a Senate confirmation.
Sources told ABC News Rosenstein wants to ensure a smooth transition to his successor and would accommodate the needs of Barr, should he be confirmed.
Rosenstein apparently had long been thinking he would serve about two years, and there was no indication that he was being forced out at this moment by the president.

Hopefully he will be able to oversee some crucial Mueller activities and indictments in next few weeks before he leaves. The Barr confirmation may take a little longer than initially expected though.

(7,840 posts)have a feeling he was waiting for the Dems to take over the House so Mueller's investigation would see the light of day no matter and he knows once the new Trump puppet takes over as AG Rosenstein is gone anyway..do think he needs to write a tell-all and soon to semi redeem himself

(7,840 posts)remember Rosenstein is a registered Republican and he wrote that ridiculously stupid "why my boss fired Comey" memo...but Barr is in a class with Kavanaugh..self-righeous amoral/say anything to get THE job slobbering sycophant...as for Rosenstein I'm thinking a tell-all isn't enough...first out of the job interview...Rachel Maddow...new place of employment..liberal think tank...

(108,973 posts)in Mueller's way. I don't have confidence that Barr won't interfere.

(7,840 posts)at trump's behest and yet he knew it was garbage...that's what bothers me...and that's why when he's out of it I want him to tell the us what went down...we deserve the unvarnished truth...I'm grateful he stayed in the sewer for as long as he did to protect the mueller investigation but as a deputy AG and an officer of the court his obligation is to the United States not the united state of trump...

(7,524 posts)...but was under the impression it was to be used as an internal brief, not published and pointed at by The Orange Gaboo as his entire reasoning and responsibility shrug for firing Comey: "Rosenstein told me to!"

(15,737 posts)From the 6th episode transcript:
"Thanks to Elliot Richardson, and George Beall, and that team of young, scrappy Baltimore prosecutors, the line of succession to the U.S. presidency was restored and protected and justice was done.
George Beall passed away not long ago. He died in January of 2017, just days before the inauguration of our current President.
Upon his passing, one of his successors as U.S. Attorney in Maryland put out a public statement honoring the work that George Beall did throughout his career, but particularly focusing on this case.
The statement said this: George Beall was a legendary federal prosecutor, an exemplary public servant and a lawyer of unsurpassed integrity ... Although George Beall's family was politically active and Vice President Agnew was a member of Beall's own political party, Beall did not hesitate to pursue the case. His commitment to justice serves as an example to us all.
That statement about one Republican having the courage to pursue another without hesitation, that was written by one of George Bealls successors as Maryland U.S. Attorney
it was written by Rod Rosenstein, who is now Deputy Attorney General of the United States."

(4,394 posts)He didn't absolutely have to and he waited until Trump was out of town to do it and didn't consult with the White House about it.

(7,142 posts)There has been a ton of pressure on him. He did a good job protecting Mueller. I just hope Dems drag out the Barr confirmation, if you get my drift.

(7,840 posts)before he leaves...he can redeem himself plus at that point he'll have nothing to lose

(5,268 posts)So Rosenstein should remain in place overseeing Mueller probe for about 6 more weeks or longer if confirmation hearings get stalled due to shutdown

(12,578 posts)With McConnell running the show in the Senate, we're screwed. Trump's already trying to put restrictions on Mueller's report. Who knows what his hand-picked lackey -- who thinks it's a waste of time -- will do to hobble Mueller and his team.

(22,912 posts)I've heard some media speculation that Mueller might have a report ready by sometime as early as February. No one has said what that speculation hinges on. But the timelines match up. Perhaps we are heading toward a finale before Barr is confirmed. Rosenstein could well be in a position to already know that.
