Trump says he's cut off FEMA funds for California wildfires in bizarre and misspelled Twitter rant

Source: RawStory

BRAD REED
09 JAN 2019 AT 09:41 ET

President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a bizarre proclamation that he has permanently ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to stop sending California money to help beat forest fires unless they adopt his widely panned plan to prevent fires by raking leaves.

"Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest (sic) fires that, with proper Forrest (sic) Management, would never happen," the president wrote. "Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives and money!"

Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forrest Management, would never happen. Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!

-- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 9, 2019

Late last year, Trump claimed that Finnish President Sauli Niinist told him that raking leaves in forests was the key to his country's success in preventing forest fires, although Niinist has denied he ever told Trump anything about raking.

Update:

Trump Threatens to Pull FEMA Money from California Over 'Disgraceful' Management of 'Forrest' Fires

by Ken Meyer Jan 9th, 2019, 10:10 am

-snip-

It's unclear what prompted Trump's tweet, but if one were to take a guess, it might have to do with the fact that California governor Gavin Newsom is blasting Trump for the address he gave last night on border security.

This tweet came hours after Newsom posted this message about the need to prepare for natural disasters.

Knowing president idiot it'd end up Dave Chappell, which wouldn't be all bad but certainly wouldn't be intentional or logically informed.

Wed Jan 9, 2019, 01:08 PM

In fact, I think that bent has become my new normal shape.

There's no way that Forrest tRump could carry this threat out without his administration ordering that all Federally managed lands in the Western US be subject to raking, as well. The cost of doing that would cover the costs of 2 or 3 border walls. At least it would mean full employment for every small town and rural area west of the Mississippi. In fact, so many workers would be needed to get out there and rake all Federal lands from the mountaintops to the desert that migrant laborers (whether legal or not) would be sure to find jobs.

Score one for Mexico and Central America!

Rural Cal, as far-right as anywhere, I live here in the middle of it. And the Camp Fire and the Carr Fire and the Napa fires fuel loadings had nothing to do with "forest management", as in conifer trees logged commercially, they burned in woodland and shrubby areas. Extreme winds, record dry fuels, will do it. A November fire like that in Northern California? Unheard of, and freaky. I hope this pronouncement turns a few people around, but who knows.

A good succinct article: https://www.popsci.com/forest-management-california-fires?src=SOC&dom=tw

Also, the USDA Forest service is shut down, NOW is the time when fuel reduction projects are happening on National Forest lands, as well as lots of other activities around reducing the impact of future fire seasons. Because of contracting, weather, administrative considerations, this time lost may not be recovered. What a setback. This blubbering asshole is bent on destroying us.

That's probably why he waited until 2018 to visit our state, and then only because we had major tragedies that he mischaracterized (they were brush fires, not forest fires), insulted those who were fighting to save people's homes, and then forgot which devastated town he was in.

Cutting off FEMA funds because we won't do what he says are the actions of an insane man. He can't govern like that -- punishing those who displease him (Puerto Rico) and rewarding those who please him (billionaires). Eventually we peasants are going to revolt and grab our pitchforks.

You know what I'm reminded of? That story about trump going to pick up junior from college (he went to college?) for something - out to dinner, a sporting event, I don't remember - and jr was dressed casually, which was apparently appropriate for the event.

trump slapped him in the face and told him to put on a suit.

This is what the moron is doing. He's slapping everyone and everything in its collective face for not behaving in the way he thinks is appropriate, or for disobeying him, or for, well, whatever he feels like.

Of course, he can't do that, and now California will spend money to sue the federal government, and they will spend money to respond.
