Randy Feenstra to challenge fellow Republican Steve King in Iowa
Source: Sioux City Journal
HULL, Iowa -- State Sen. Randy Feenstra will attempt to upset the dynamics of Republican politics in Iowa, as he is readying a primary campaign to veteran Rep. Steve King in 2020.
Feenstra, of Hull, said he is opening a federal campaign committee. A campaign website -- feenstraforcongress -- went live Wednesday morning. Feenstra also opened a Twitter campaign account, reworking the prior account he had used as a state senator.
"What we've seen this past week from the new Democratic majority in Congress is appalling," Feenstra said in a statement. "They've made it clear that they want nothing less than to raise taxes to historic levels, ignore the rule of law and undue the successes made by President Trump. The President needs effective conservative leaders in Congress who will not only support his agenda, but actually get things done."
In the statement, Feenstra said he will open a federal campaign committee for the seat to be settled in November 2020.

Because King is too wimpy? Or too ineffective?

(49,827 posts)Looks like another King in more polite package. Hull and Dordt College are heart of the reddest, most regressive part of the state.
A staunch conservative, Randy Feenstra has a long list of accomplishments in the Iowa legislature. Senator Feenstra was a key architect of last years historic state income tax cut, the largest in Iowas history. Feenstra also led the way on reducing property taxes for Iowas working families and seniors. Hes also been a champion of rural Iowa defending Iowa agriculture, a supporter of renewable fuels and a proponent for Iowas main street businesses.
Feenstra also has a long record of results protecting Iowas shared conservative values. Hes been a leading voice defending life and protecting the 2ndAmendment rights of Iowans. As a co-sponsor he helped protect the integrity of Iowas elections by passing Voter ID legislation.
Prior to serving in the Iowa Senate, Randy worked as the sales manager for the Foreign Candy Company for seven years, and then spent seven years as the Hull
City Administrator until he was elected Sioux County Treasurer in 2006.
Senator Feenstra has been an active member of Northwest Iowa for many years as he has served on college, hospital, civic and church boards. He also spent 14 years as an EMT for the City of Hull. He currently serves on the Village Northwest Unlimited Board, is treasurer of the local Kiwanis club, and is a full-time professor at Dordt College teaching in the business department.
Senator Feenstra and his wife, Lynette, have four children and reside in Hull.

(9,086 posts)I don't know whether to rejoice or be sad that someone in the post-Truth Republican Party is going to challenge Steve King. I would say that while such behavior is unlikely, once in a great while the Pachyderms do go on poop patrol, even in districts where they Republicans needn't fear a donkey stampede.
There was a particularly obnoxious obnoxious right-wing Republican state representative sent packing in Belton, Texas, a red district. Although Belton is not western Iowa, even the Belton Republicans got fed up with their state rep and sacked her. Who knows, maybe the same can happen in Iowa (Even if I'd prefer that the Republicans become a permanent minority party like the Libertarians and the Greens).
