(19,458 posts)..and how they said that he'd gone out and bought a new uniform, because he was so proud and honored to be part of the motorcade. Still makes me cry thinking about what a heartbreaking day that was.

I drove by that same spot only 15 minutes earlier. The traffic was very heavy for a Sunday afternoon. It must be a pretty dangerous job to stop 70-75 mph traffic. Speed limit 65 but almost everyone speeding.

(8,318 posts)It is necessary to move motorcades, but so dangerous. Leapfrogging past the vehicles in the motorcade and keeping vehicles and pedestrians from getting hit. God (your choice) Bless the officer and his family in their time of sorrow.

(14 posts)Did the police officer get killed just before the motorcade was passing from there or it happened before the presidential motorcade arrived.?
FlaGranny
(8,361 posts)said the officer was trying to stop traffic on I-95, but I think that was wrong. Later reports said he was leading the motorcade. .

(34,582 posts)the attention span of cage drivers is appalling. People are too wrapped up in their damn cell phone to be bothered by little things like ensuring they don't kill someone. If we had a national law that gave you a $500 ticket for the first offense we might get somewhere. There is NO acceptable reason to be yakking, or texting, while driving. None.

Still, one thing drivers look out for is police in general, and motorcycle police and their bikes have visibility in mind.
