Source: Bay News 9 (Tampa Bay)

WEST PALM BEACH (AP) -- A motorcycle police officer escorting President Barack Obama's motorcade has died after being hit by a pickup truck.

My heart still hurts for the family of the officer killed in Hillary Clinton's motorcade in Texas during the 2008 primaries.

The officer in Dallas died.

She canceled her rally in Fort Worth.

Another motorcyle officer was killed in Dallas in 2008 while escorting Clinton's motorcade. We still honor that officer's memory just as we will honor the officer from Jupiter, FL.

These men and women place their lives at risk with any high-profile individual regardless of whether they support the person or not. This is the sign of service. We should be thankful to this officer and the family for their sacrifice and contribution. My prayers are with them.

So sad for the officer's family.

I drove by that same spot only 15 minutes earlier. The traffic was very heavy for a Sunday afternoon. It must be a pretty dangerous job to stop 70-75 mph traffic. Speed limit 65 but almost everyone speeding.

It is necessary to move motorcades, but so dangerous. Leapfrogging past the vehicles in the motorcade and keeping vehicles and pedestrians from getting hit. God (your choice) Bless the officer and his family in their time of sorrow.

Did the police officer get killed just before the motorcade was passing from there or it happened before the presidential motorcade arrived.?

the attention span of cage drivers is appalling. People are too wrapped up in their damn cell phone to be bothered by little things like ensuring they don't kill someone. If we had a national law that gave you a $500 ticket for the first offense we might get somewhere. There is NO acceptable reason to be yakking, or texting, while driving. None.

I do a lot of bicycling, so I am doubly invisible.

Still, one thing drivers look out for is police in general, and motorcycle police and their bikes have visibility in mind.

Four way stop wasn't blocked off. Some hapless guy stopped and crossed, and the motorcade plowed right into him.
