Missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs found alive in Wisconsin
Source: CNN
Jayme Closs, a 13-year-old girl who vanished after her parents were found dead in their northwestern Wisconsin home, has been found alive, the Barron County Sheriff's Department said.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department in Wisconsin notified the Barron County Sheriff's Department on Thursday that they had located Jayme alive.
She was found Thursday afternoon in Gordon, Wisconsin, a town about 66 miles north of where Jayme was last seen, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
A suspect was taken into custody about 10 minutes after authorities found Jayme, the sheriff's office said. No more details were immediately available but authorities have said they will hold a news conference Friday morning. Jayme's aunt, Sue Allard, said her niece was in the hospital Thursday night.

This is a huge story in Wisconsin. Now appears to be a murder of the parents followed by abduction of the teen. Thank goodness she's alive.

(7,286 posts)She was abducted in the middle of the night from her home and held captive by 1 or 2 older men for 3 months in a remote Northwoods cabin. She escaped and was found dirty, hair matted and malnourished. Bare foot in 10 degree weather.
What sort of dark back story do you mean, pray tell?

(8,747 posts)The parents found out, forbid her from seeing him. So the two of them cooked up a scheme to kill her parents and disappear together.
I DO NOT believe this, I am only playing devil's advocate. Sadly, so many people believe shit like that first thing. They cannot comprehend some people are just evil.

This kind of speculation is an example of misogynistic culture. I would hope that DUers know better.
I'm sure that if you reflect on this, you'll see how unfair this speculation is to this child.

(7,286 posts)There are people, including many women, that adhere to this theory. Its mind boggling they cant let it go no matter what the facts.
You of course are correct but I think you misread the posters intent. He is describing idiots that think that way

Is it unfair, sure it is. But people seem to getting so cynical these days, many fall straight into victim-blaming first thing.

(16,829 posts)All we do know is that he is 20 years old and male. If he blended in to this very small town in Wisconsin, he is probably white.
No known connection between the families, so motive for the murders is unknown.
News conference at 10am.

(7,286 posts)I have been following this case quite a bit, I grew up near there
the following people were theorized to be involved in committing the crime:
Jayme herself. (people are still saying that)
her boyfriend she had that nobody knew about
her family
the coworkers from the turkey plant
law enforcement
people from the town
the drug addicts across the street, or one that lived in the woods
Somalians!!!! ( boy howdy they were blamed)
Some random guy that Jayme met on the internet
the unknown person who committed a similar crime somewhere else in the US
her mom had a boyfriend
her dad was a drug dealer. her dad was a police informant
the weirdo that broke into her home after the crime and stole her clothes
random internet trolls
it was mind boggling the theories that people were coming up with.....and to give you an example these same people today had a hard time figuring out what time the press conference was because they lived in a different time zone.....real brain power there

On the social media sites its worse the insinuation that she was responsible somehow .the sheriff said she was taken against her will and is an innocent victim.
What I think happened as the case dragged on people came to this conclusion that she was in on it and they cant let it go
Other conspiracy folks cant let the work place theory go

(962 posts)it often is an older guy in these situations. I haven't heard if this poor girl was sexually abused but I would also bet that she was. Poor kid! Her life will never be the same.

(57,319 posts)Wisconsin man arrested in teen's abduction, parents' deaths
By JEFF BAENEN and GRETCHEN EHLKE Associated Press JANUARY 11, 2019 11:50AM
BARRON, Wis. A 21-year-old man is jailed in the deaths of a Wisconsin couple he killed because he wanted to kidnap their teenage daughter, investigators said Friday, a day after the girl approached a stranger along a rural road saying she'd been abducted in October and held against her will.
Jake Thomas Patterson was taken into custody shortly after 13-year-old Jayme Closs sought help from a woman walking her dog in a rural, heavily wooded neighborhood near the small town of Gordon, about 60 miles (96.5 kilometers) north of Barron. Jayme disappeared from her family's home near Barron after her parents were killed Oct. 15.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said during a news conference Friday that Jayme was taken against her will. He said investigators believe Patterson killed Jayme's parents because he wanted to abduct her, and that Patterson "planned his actions and took many steps to hide his identity."
Fitzgerald said investigators believe the girl was "the only target" and don't believe Patterson had any contact with the family. Douglas County Sheriff Thomas Dalbec said Patterson was jailed on kidnapping and homicide charges.
