Some Airport Security Lanes to Shut as Shutdown Squeezes TSA
Source: Bloomberg news
The Transportation Security Administration plans to begin closing a handful of security checkpoints at airports around the U.S. as soon as this weekend in response to staff shortages as impacts of the three-week partial federal government shutdown begin to expand.
Miami International Airport expects to shut one of its concourses starting Saturday afternoon and will move flights to other gates, according to a statement by the airport.
More than 51,000 TSA employees have been on the job without pay since Dec. 22 and missed their first paycheck on Friday. On Thursday, the agency saw a 55 percent increase in employees calling in sick, from 3.3 percent a year ago to 5.1 percent, spokesman Michael Bilello said in an email.
Were very concerned that the current situation with government employees going without pay is unsustainable in the long term, Christopher Bidwell, a senior vice president at the Airports Council International-North America in Washington.said.

(24,632 posts)are doing just in Miami................they have the following gates allocation
http://www.miami-airport.com/about_us.asp
The North, Central and South Terminals will have a total of 130 gates, with 104 international capable gates and 26 domestic gates, and a total of 645 ticket counters.
If the gates at the other terminals are trying to pick up the flight load from the "terminal" that is closed down, you have flights being diverted to nearby airports, you have planes sitting on the tarmac waiting to get in and out, and if you have a plane being inspected by the FAA or the FAA following a mechanic around to make sure the maintenance is being done properly, or if the plane has a FAA inspector on a check ride for flight procedure operations being delayed on the ground or in the air trying to land
Then have customs agents on the international flight checking the plane that just landed internationally being checked and the people being checked.
Then to top it all off you have FAA tower(s) at the airport field operations making sure that no plane is landing or taking off on taxi way, and that the planes are being positioned to there respective departure and unloading gates, the company air operations that are communication with the FAA ground, or the TSA personnel checking bags at the international of domestic side gates that are now being understaffed, putting more pressure on the takeoff and departure schedule for the airline.
Then you have the FAA traffic centers routing both incoming and outgoing to there respected grounds and flight operations to the next centers, being under staffed ..................then safety is going to be compromised.
Then finally the economic of the community not only for the personnel being and getting the proverbial shaft by the orange ass hat and the senate republican leader ass hat without a pay check, but the region just around Miami takes a hit for everyone, that is associated with that airport and that means thousands of workers........................and the Labor department is going to show this in its next report....................that jobs report is going to show a uptick in unemployment and wall street is going to take a hit.............This jobs creating lying ass hat is coming home to roost.....................
And the senate leader ass hat has five bills on his desk right now that could open the government and he could also override a veto if he had some balls to do his job and he isn't doing it................because his chamber passed a CR in December to give the government the means to operate until 2/ 2019 ...................and he, the senate ass hat will not do it...................and I do think people understand this...................completely..................
November 3, 2020 cannot get here fast enough...................
