Minority Voters To Be Intimidated By Polling Place Vigilantes, Report Warns

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Concerned that a veritable army of Tea Partyers will descend on polling places in minority neighborhoods to challenge and intimidate voters on Election Day, two public interest groups on Monday called for government officials to take extra steps to protect voters' rights.

A new report from Common Cause and Demos, titled "Bullies at the Ballot Box," describes efforts by right-wing groups -- foremost among them, a Tea Party spin-off group called True the Vote -- to train as many as a million volunteers in "poll-watching."

"I think we have seen a much more coordinated and well-funded effort than we've seen in years past, and that's why it's so concerning," said Jenny Flanagan, director of voting and elections at Common Cause and one of the report's authors.

"The message behind their tactic I think is what's most concerning to us," she said, because the groups appear to be "targeting racial minorities and others who have a past of being targeted."

They say anywhere from 500k-1mil PA voters could lose access to voting on election day because of this new Voter ID law. The margin of win for Obama in 2008 was almost 10% but that was 700k voters which means if a judge doesn't overturn the PA Voter ID law - GOP could steal the election here.

They could have accepted the knowledge it was time to let go of the evil of the past, but they chose to try to keep making life a living hell for others.

74. Here's how "CAGING" works . . .
Tue Sep 11, 2012, 02:56 PM
Sep 2012

A group like Americans for Prosperity or even the Republican Party
send out these fake ballots.
There intent is to never turn them in because they're not real ballots.

This accomplishes 3 things:
1) If you vote on these fake ballots, you now think you've voted.
So you never show up to the polls to vote in person because you believe
you've already voted. Which of course you haven't.

2) If you don't send the ballot back, the organization that sent it to you
now believes you don't live at the address where they sent it. So, when
you do go to vote at the polls on Nov. 6th, they'll have a poll watcher
there, waiting for you to arrive, and then they challenge your right to
vote.
The Poll workers can't officially verify your legal right while at the polls
so instead of giving you an official ballot, you're given a provisional ballot.
At times, these provisional ballots are not counted, therefore in reality
you never really voted. In 2004, during the Kerry/Bush election, the state
of OHIO never counted 180,000 provisional ballots.

3) Your local Registrar of Voters is allowed to send out ballots or postcards
for you to verify your current address. They do this under the guise that
they are cleaning up their voter rolls, which they are legally allowed to do.

Unfortunately, if you don't return the ROV's request because your used to
seeing all these fake requests, the ROV will actually remove you from the
REAL VOTER ROLLS.

Now when you go to vote at your local precinct, your name is nowhere
to be found. Your given a provisional ballot, but because your name has
been officially removed from the voter rolls, the ROV will NEVER count
your provisional ballot.

This is insidious on soooo many levels.

That's why I say to contact your local DA, and try to get these organizations
into court and stop this practice before they disenfranchise more voters.

84. Ohio should have counted the remaining provisional ballots
Tue Sep 11, 2012, 08:01 PM
Sep 2012

But they didn't because Kerry was supposedly down by 160,000
and he would have had to get 89% of the provisional ballots to
just break even.
This before they determined that votes stolen would have made
it a much closer race.

Read the book Witness To a Crime: A Citizen's Audit of an American Election
By Richard Hayes Phillips.

Notice along the left hand side of the ballot displayed, how votes were
stolen. Literally by placing a sticker over a Kerry/Edwards vote and then
marking the Shrub/Cheater bubble.

The S.A in old Germany did that to - intimated everyone at the polling places - of course it was illegal, even by the standards of the Wiemar Republic, who caved into rubles in 1932-33..

And I think it is fair to give the Tea Party groups, who Will decent on polling places, to be at the same league as the old S.A of NSDAP.. They act absolutely in the same manner - intimate, scaring and bully people to be home rather than go out vote...

saw this first hand in 2008 with your garden variety racists and police (even though that is against the law) patrolling in black districts and staring at minorities intimidatingly.

When I was voting in 2010, an old white guy ahead of me got really concerned about dead people voting and starting yelling to check all of the black people's ID in line. They almost threw him out, the poll worker rolled his eyes at me. I was pretty ticked off -- no American should be hassled like that.

America owns the polling places, not Faux Noise Tea Party cowards. And, I'm known to be a dead shot locally; and I'm militantly anti-reThuglikkklan. Plus, having a BLA magna cum laude with being a veteran and a shooting instructor tends to confuse the living peewaddlin' out of them.

I don't fit the 'liberal weenie' stereotype for 'em; in fact, I let them know I'm a leftist and not a liberal; a liberal will allow for their opinion: I WILL NOT. Loudly.

I would think this behavior would be very risky.

I wasn't intimidated in Selma! I wasn't intimidated in B'ham! Nor Evergreen, MS! I won't be intimidated in TX!!! On election day, I will don the bib coveralls, my old SNCC button, my "Remember Sammie Young" armband, and my blue bandanna (with TWO knots!), and "Keep on marching up to freedom land"!

45. What we need is UN Election Observation Teams

The US has participated in these sorts of groups during elections in the third world. Sadly, I think such program needs to be put into place here, conspiracy theories and black helicopters be damned.

Observers are allowed, but they cannot engage with voters or take photos.

If any of these idiots show up at the polling place that I'm in charge of, and don't play by the rules, I'll just call the sheriff to get rid of them.

In 2010, True the Vote was very active in Harris County and made life difficult for the Harris County party. Luckily for Harris County, the county chair Gerry Birnberg is a very good election law lawyer and got some DOJ support.

Fort Bend County is next to Harris County and we are expecting these idiots to be out in force. I am doing a couple of training sessions for poll watchers. The first will be in conjunction with the State Party on October 6 in Harris County. We are going to do our best to be ready for these idiots

This is a case of a conspiracy against rights, plain and simple. The entire "True the Vote" gang ought to be rounded up and locked up because they're liable to kill someone trying to exercise their rights.

I live in a very Republican area and I'm a black woman. They see me coming from miles away and there are always people hanging outside my polling place. They have always been civil/nice enough but I am always uncomfortable anyway. Voting by mail for sure this time.

We live in a blue state so prevailing opinion among people here is that I don't have to vote at all, but I want to.

how many of those "poll watchers" are concealed carry holders? How ugly can things get? Things can get VERY ugly in a hurry if some racist hot head with a gun decides it's his duty to "protect the purity of his country".

Can you imagine some doughy teabagger venturing into the Badlands of North Philly or Oakland or Detroit or Cleveland and trying this shit? They'd get eaten. It's not like some stranger can just go walking into a minority neighborhood and cow the people like the master of a plantation. Hell no, they'd end up dead or worse.

Someone had better think twice.
