Omaha Tribe member in spotlight in face of taunting teens

An Omaha Tribe member was put in the national spotlight Saturday as video went viral of a high school student wearing a Make America Great Again hat standing and smirking in front of him and a crowd of boys yelling around him.
The Native American man, identified as Nathan Phillips, drummed on during the Indigenous Peoples March in the face of the students' behavior. Phillips is originally from Nebraska and an elder in the Omaha Tribe.
The incident happened Friday on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
In 2000, the Omaha World-Herald wrote a profile on Phillips, who at the time was conducting a vigil with his family for the entire month of November on the National Mall.
In this Friday, Jan. 18, 2019 image made from video provided by the Survival Media Agency, a teenager wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat, center left, stands in front of an elderly Native American singing and playing a drum in Washington. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington in Kentucky is looking into this and other videos that show youths, from the diocese's all-male Covington Catholic High School, mocking Native Americans at a rally in Washington.

(24,329 posts)It appears another school within the diocese will also have issues -- as there was at least one girl I noticed in the mob

(6,549 posts)The harassment is not limited to just the boys. It is apparently pervasive in Covington Diocese schools. I do like the fact that former graduates of Covington Catholic High School are being very vocal in condemning the administration in this incident. We all can bear witness to what happens when an administration starts pushing their hidden agenda. All we have to do is watch tRump and his cabal in action to see what has happened to our country in just a few months. Sad and disgusting.

(24,329 posts)If they were in the same group as the boys then that would mean they came from another Catholic High School in the diocese. This would mean it is more than one school involved
Chances are, there were more than one high school from the diocese. Probably also, not all those boys are from one high school

(1,121 posts)need to be identified and ostracized from society along with their bigoted/racist parents and school administrators. What's even more galling is these turds were in D.C. for the March for Fetuses and the "dignity of life." What a hypocritical pile of shit! The time for decency and civility is over. This vermin needs to be constantly harassed in their schools, places of employment, places of worship, and homes. They only become more emboldened by apathy and timid responses. Fuck this scum!

(4,032 posts)A lot of good all that Christian stuff is doing on them, you know, kindness, forgiveness, empathy toward your fellow man. Either the parents should demand their hefty tuition back (they are probably from the same mindset) or the school should administrators should be fired. They have obviously failed the Lord in their less than adequate teachings of the Bible. They just didnt get the MAIN point of Catholicism across to these rich, white ass punks. But, money doesnt talk, it screams. Praise the Lord and pass the donation plate.

(5,128 posts)I felt better when the article spent 80% on Phillips and his struggle, and not on the miscreant white shitheads.
