President Donald Trump is crowing over statistics showing manufacturing adding more jobs last year than in any other over the past two decades and hes taking a swipe at his predecessor in the process.
In a Monday morning tweet, Trump boasted about the manufacturing job numbers which, according to CNBC, were the highest since 1997 and also jabbed at former President Barack Obama.

He just says, Well, Im going to negotiate a better deal. Well, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? Obama said. What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesnt have an answer.

(7,392 posts)Auto layoffs in 2008 were massive and they came roaring back following the stimulus so manufacturing had a healthy rebound following that. In 2018 Ford and either GM or Chrysler announced nearly 30,000 job layoffs combined. Also, the monthly jobs report should have showed us month by month we were having a surge and Trump would have been all over that. Did they reclassify something? Need a breakdown by segment to see just where these jobs were created.

(7,392 posts)The economy DID NOT add the most manufacturing jobs since 1997 when Bill Clinton was President, as claimed by Donald Trump. CNBC jumped on the bandwagon when a simple Google search would reveal the truth.
While the numbers are good, they are not the best since 1997 as Trump claimed. They are the best since 2014. Big difference. Did they not expect to get fact checked? Had they, this is what they would have found out.

(3,461 posts)Im sure Legitimate President Obama thought the possibility of this tamort ever actually becoming President was a billion to one shot, just like everyone else. But I wonder if he might have dialed it back if he could see this coming. Im convinced that the verbal beatdown really was the springboard for Тяцмрs run.

Trump's gain is part of a slow recovery that has been ongoing.

(23,113 posts)The economy was getting up to speed. Hes been coasting ever since. For example, last year the stock market actually lost money, and he presided over the single greatest loss day in the history of the market. And now hes presided over the longest government shutdown and theres no end in sight, and his obstinance will cost us trillions in the long run. Hes also presided over the largest increase in national debt in history. So yes, hes certainly setting records that will be VERY difficult to beat.

(7,220 posts)If it was the "slowest recovery in history", then people saying that fail to take into account that
1. At least it WAS a recovery as opposed to a self-induced crisis thanks to BO's predecessor
2. Obama cleaned up W's mess like a team of maids cleaning up a hotel room after Led Zeppelin stayed there for a month
3. W took Clinton's surplus and gave it to the rich, while letting the banks run rampant until we had the worst crisis since the great depression. It takes time to fix that, just like it will take time for (insert Dem name here) to clean up Chump's messes.
4. Chump gave trillions to the rich and increased our debt for several lifetimes, with no plans to repay.
All of the above will be forgotten next time we have a "D" in the WH. Because "Liberal Media" is NOT A REAL THING, and Americans have the memory of mentally challenged goldfish.

(2,585 posts)I know his claims are full of shit. I won't even spend a second thinking about those. Any gains the economy have made (during the Obama years) are poised to be wiped out, along with other catastrophic damages done with this shutdown. He's single-handedly tanking the U.S. economy and pushing us to the brink of recession - if not worse. Traitorous shitweasel.

(3,479 posts)is that manufacturing continues to decline as a percentage of the workforce.
It was over 30% in 1949.
It was at 8.8% in 2013.
It is at 8.5% currently.
THAT'S what Obama meant by needing a magic wand to bring back manufactoring, but good luck getting MAGAts to comprehend this.

(1,706 posts)in his great tax cut corporations get a tax reduction for moving jobs out of the country that is why GM is moving some to Mexico.
