SNL Premieres With Jay Pharoah As A New, Unworried-About-Romney, Obama.

Source: Mediaite

The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 38th season began with a cold open featuring actor Jay Pharoah‘s impression of President Barack Obama.

Pharoah replaced veteran cast-member Fred Armisen as the show’s regular Obama impersonator.

Speaking with an enormous amount of ums and ahs, “Obama” made the case for why his opponents are unattractive candidates. A hokey Mitt Romney, played by Jason Sudeikis (who, yes, is still a cast-member) was referred to as the Obama campaign’s “secret weapon.” Younger cast-member Taran Killam debuted his new Paul Ryan impression just in time for the election, replete with a strong Wisconsin accent and a boatload of math-related jokes.

he has some of the voice and mannerisms, but a lot more to do. I thought the pitch was pretty funny...and the cut to romney singing e-i-e-i-o was fucking perfect. Though having blacks in his audience is not reality, lol...

it's a start,
and the Ryan impersonator looks a lot like him, imo...just not as creepy, thank god

I know this myself being part of his generation where we were ingrained with exhortation to NEVER use or at least avoid using "um" when public speaking. So in most cases, Prez. Obama has extended out an "and" to avoid falling into the "um" trap, although of late, he has slipped a bit.

... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, though sometimes, when I'm watching him, I'm trying to finish his sentences for him. I think it just indicates he's thinking, processing, figuring out how best to frame an argument or express himself BEFORE speaking. Considering so many other politicians speak WITHOUT thinking ... they don't use hesitation markers (which is what they were termed by my linguistics professor), but then they often vomit out something ridiculous. See Bush I, Bush II, Romney, Akin, etc.

So, I kind of got a kick out of Pharoah's hyperextension of those hesitation markers ... our president is just a THINKING president!

He does little videos, way better Obama impersonation. He does a behind the actor series where he plays two actors who bitch about each other. Denzel vs. Will Smith is epic. Also his Jay-Z is one of th funniest spot on impressions I have seen.
