Amid uneasy calm in Cairo, prime minister says some were paid to protest
Source: CNN
Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- Egypt's prime minister said some of the thousands involved in days of protests near the U.S. Embassy got paid to participate, state news reported Saturday, the same day riot police managed to force demonstrators from the area.
Prime Minister Hesham Kandil said "a number" of those involved in the tense, sometimes violent protests, which began Tuesday, later confessed to getting paid to participate, according to the state-run Middle East News Agency. He noted, too, that some of the demonstrators were acting on their own and weren't paid to vent their anger against the United States over an inflammatory anti-Islam film that was privately produced in that country.
Kandil did not say whether the government knew or suspected who paid the demonstrators, according to the MENA report.
Also Saturday, some semblance of normalcy finally returned to Cairo after riot police successfully pushed away demonstrators from the U.S. diplomatic as well as nearby Tahrir Square.

(505 posts)McClatchy reports there were no protesters outside when well-armed and organized Libya raid happened.
Movie only had 6000 hits when Libya raid happened. Libya deaths was not due to protesters going too far by climbing the wall and taking a flag.
Stevens died of smoke inhalation. Glen Doherty was shot. (yes he was a guard) Glen was helping to stop religious fanatics in US military. Any top brass on the line? I also saw report of documents taken. What was in the documents?
Payments to protesters is interesting bit of info. Someone wanted protesters.

(1,881 posts)that with all the money flowing to these SuperPacs, like Karl plant bugs in my office and then cry foul Rove, that someone here was heavily involved in all of this. It all seems way too coordinated to have happened spontaneously.

(4,220 posts)We are supposed to believe that the wing nuts in Cairo and Alexandria stumbled on the Frank Gaffney's or Goldberg's website by accident??? Possible but if some in Egypt financed the "movie" and some in Egypt financed some of the protesters, why can't they be the SAME people.
This whole thing smells. But I think the events of this week in Egypt and everywhere else is one thing and Libya is another.
The killers in Libya were opportunistic and latched onto the demonstrations as a cover... I think they might have been going to do it anyway on 9/11 or were waiting for the "next" demonstration to make the attack. Opportunistic...
The whole movie outrage started in Egypt for a reason... Apparently the people who made it and paid for it are from there, whatever their politics or religion. Our country is getting used here and it all can possibly just be a big 'kin circle and the smell is really coming from certain wing nuts HERE who do not have ANY MORAL COMPASS. it's your modern day, 21st century 'rat fucking' ------Donald Segretti and Lee Atwater are smiling somewhere (Hell?) right now.
And this fucking BeBe Netanutjob pressure is part of it too! Since when is he running our country??? this is bullshit.

(2,682 posts)to give Romney a foreign policy platform, they wasted their money. Don't they know their candidate isn't up to giving a strong, well-thought response, well, to anything? -- he makes a mess of everything he tries to do.

(10,857 posts)Isn't it interesting that the yarn is starting to lead back to the Republican ball, and tangled up right in the middle of it is al Qaeda, running a planned operation in the middle of a supposedly spontaneous demonstration.
If those people were paid by Republican cut-outs to demonstrate... and al Qaeda knew about the demonstrations and used them as part of an attack... well, that makes them real cozy, doesn't it?
Real cozy.

(13,452 posts)To give Romney an edge they have to whip some National Security issue.
Problem is that Romney blew the first round.
Now, George Will does damage control. saying it's all equal.
Later, it can return. Same paid "protesters." Only, they'll be better prepared to attach it to the Obama is not making things better meme, which I hope will backfire on them again.

(290 posts)IF there are ties to U.S. for the protests (payment), it won't be proved in time for the elections. However, if Egypt's PM did make a statement like this publicly, you know the FBI were told prior. I have no doubt that there is an investigation going much deeper than we would ever be privy to.
IF there are ties to the superpacs (Koch or Rove) for and it can be proved, I certainly hope they would be tried and put away for treason. IF they footed the bill for the movie, they probably can't be tried for that, but I think public disgrace would be fitting. Doubtful, anything can be tied to Romney (darn). He's probably not smart enough to have come up with the idea anyway.
