Israel says U.S. must be firm on stopping Iran nuclear threat

Source: Reuters

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A senior Israeli official said on Sunday the United States should not wait for Iran to decide on building a nuclear weapon before it considers military action against the Islamic Republic

"When is the point at which it should be stopped? Just when the bomb is assembled on the tip of the missile and is ready for launch?" Dan Meridor, deputy Israeli prime minister with responsibility for nuclear and intelligence affairs, said in a radio interview.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who sees a mortal threat to Israel from Tehran, has hinted he could resort to war unless Washington and other world powers give Iran an ultimatum on curbing its uranium enrichment programme.

U.S. President Barack Obama has rebuffed Netanyahu's lobbying, opening a rift between the allies although they agree that Iran has yet to take the final steps of purifying uranium to military grade and assembling a warhead.

Well, WHEN do they want to attack? Now? If Israel wants to do it so badly, what do they need us for, exactly? A.)We don't have 100% proof that they are building it. B.)We don't have proof that they have one yet C.)Iran would have to be literally insane to launch a nuke at Israel even if they had one. They will kill Palestinians in a strike on Israel and radioactive fallout will affect other nearby Arab/Muslim countries. In short, what do they have to gain unless we're talking a last gasp suicidal gesture?

and we all know the right wing of any particular party be it religious or not are BLOODTHIRSTY. Look at the GOP's RW. They are crazy as hell and always beating the war drums. With the combination of these two RWingers, GOD HELP US. Pres O will win and hopefully stop all this craziest about attacking Iran.

strikes are threatened they should be by the US and NATO against Israel unless it stops threatening to launch WWIII and gets rid of the diabolical bastards who are running that country.

peace to war would exercise their rights as citizens, throw the warmongers out and replace them with people who will institute such government as meets those ends. It is the business of the Israeli people to determine who those folks are. It is none of my business, nor my place to try and affect the outcome of such elections, a lesson the right-wing Israeli lobby in this country and Foreign nationals like Mr. Netanyahu would do well to heed.

You wrote that if any preemptive strikes are threatened they should be by the US and NATO against Israel.

This seemed to suggest that it is our business and place to determine who those folks are.

It is our business to stop Israel from starting a global conflict, by military means if necessary. That is not the same as interfering in its domestic politics to determine who is and who is not elected. At present the Israeli government of Prime Minister Netanyahu is making thinly veiled threats and laying down ultimatums to the effect that Israel will attack Iran with or without the imprimatur of the US. He is doing this to overtly influence American domestic politics and foreign policy. This behavior is nothing new for the Israelis. NATO battle groups are already heading for the Persian Gulf to protect the Straights of Hormuz. That means war between the US and Iran should Israel strike that country. I would prefer that Israel, as the aggressor, suffer that fate should it be insane enough to actually start a war with Iran.

I'm getting real tired of these folks telling us what to do. And it is obvious that the only reason they're putting out all these missives is to interfere with the upcoming election.
