Scott Brown won't say if he still supports Romney for president
Source: The Hill
Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) refused to say whether he still supports Mitt Romney for president on Wednesday, a day after he distanced himself from Romney's now famous "47 percent" remarks in comments first made to The Hill.
"I made it very, very clear where I stand on these issues," he told reporters Wednesday.
But Brown hedged when asked by The Hill if Romney's comments made him hesitant to support him.
"Listen, you're going to have to speak to Governor Romney about what his plans are. I'm doing what I've been doing," he said.

(59,500 posts)This could be bad journalism, but there are Brown comments from the past that are similarly incoherent.
Assuming that he was indeed answering if he still supported Romney for President, his answer that he has been very, very clear is trur ONLY if he is supporting him. He has never made a clear statement that he is not supporting him for President - just that he disagrees with what he said on the video. Many politicians disagree on a comment or position with the candidate they support - and most do that with no confusion.
What is even weirder is that it sounds like he was pushed on his support and his answer was to ask ROMNEY what his plans are. This is ridiculous as an answer = yet it echoes some of the mush Brown has said in the past.
It really sounds like he is annoyed that Romney is making it harder for him by screwing up so badly. However, Brown has Eric Fehrnstrom leading his campaign as well as working in Romney's and they share many people. Not to mention, Romney helped him raise the money for the 2010 race. It is mind-boggling that Brown thinks he can really disassociate himself now - they share the same political DNA. I don't see how this helps him with Democrats or even the undecideds - and it could hurt with Republicans.
The fact that he seems completely discombobulated can't help people see him as strong or thoughtful. Nice that the first debate with Warren is tomorrow.

(160,501 posts)Scott Brown Campaign Says He Still Supports Mitt Romney Despite Reports To The Contrary

An aide to Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) pushed back on reports Wednesday afternoon that the senator was no longer comfortable expressing his support for Mitt Romney after the candidate's controversial remarks about the "47 percent" of "dependent" Americans who don't pay income taxes.
BuzzFeed reporter Rosie Gray tweeted that a spokesperson for the Brown campaign replied "yes" when asked whether Brown still supports Romney, after the Hill reported that Brown had dodged the question.
"Listen, you're going to have to speak to Governor Romney about what his plans are," Brown told reporters on Wednesday when asked if he still supports Romney. "I'm doing what I've been doing."
Pressed further as to whether he still supports Romney, Brown punted again. "He's working hard to get his message out," he said. "I don't agree with him on everything but that's what being an independent senator is about: criticizing my party when it's appropriate and then praising people when they have an opportunity to do something well."

(111 posts)Dude has got no path to jump either way. My guess? He's probably LIVID with Romney. No matter what he says, he's screwed. If he supports Romney, he's gonna get hung with the 47% label. If he disavows Romney he's gonna be the turncoat, jezebel, traitor, ____________ (fill in the blank) - turned on by the other side, who also happens to be holding the moneybags. On this one, his only option is doing exactly what he's doing - NOTHING, and doing a whole lot of shucking and jiving to make it look like he's doing a whole lot of stuff!!!
