Minnesota Human Rights Department launches probe into Minneapolis police

Source: Star Tribune

The Minnesota Department of Human Rights will launch an investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department after filing a civil rights charge related to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in police custody last week.

The probe, announced Tuesday by Gov. Tim Walz, will look at Minneapolis police policies and procedures over the past 10 years to determine whether the department has engaged in discriminatory practices toward people of color.

Human Rights Commissioner Rebecca Lucero will lead the investigation. “This is not about holding people personally criminally liable,” Lucero said. “This is about systems change.”

The investigation follows the arrest and charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, a white officer who knelt on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes before he died. Three other police officers have been fired following the deadly encounter.

I smell it.

They need to find them, get the complaints and then terminate his ass.

Civil rights charges and prison would be icing on the cake.

If they can just get rid of that douche Bob Kroll it will go a long way to cleaning up the mess.

I knew racist cops 30 years ago, long before Kroll, but he's done a lot since then to hamper the efforts of a succession of mayors and chiefs to make improvements.

The Political Enablers need to be exposed. Just because they cashed the check from the Police Federation as a Campaign Contribution, you can not turn a blind eye to what is and has happened through out the decades.

Thank you for pointing that out. There are a lot of City Councilmembers who have taken money from the police union.

Sad to say, seen this nightmare coming when Kroll walked. Time for Mike Freeman to take a hike as well,Orville would not be proud of what is happening.

Minneapolis police commander out over 'despicable' tree, AP, 12/3/18

The commander of a Minneapolis police precinct has been replaced following the uproar over Christmas tree decorations that the mayor said amounted to a "racist display."

... Two Minneapolis officers were placed on paid leave Friday for their apparent involvement in the decorations. The Christmas tree at the precinct station was decorated with items such as Newport cigarettes, police crime tape, a can of malt liquor and a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen cup.

(City Pages adds: " a few crumpled beer cans ... and some empty bags of Funyuns and Takis" )

The 4th precinct is on Minneapolis's north side, a heavily African American area.
