Trump says GOP is pulling convention from North Carolina

Source: Newsday

RALEIGH, N.C. — President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is seeking a new state to host the Republican National Convention after host North Carolina refused to guarantee the event could be held in Charlotte without restrictions because of ongoing concerns over the coronavirus.

Trump tweeted the news Tuesday night, complaining that the state’s governor, Democrat Roy Cooper, other officials “refuse to guarantee that we can have use of the Spectrum Arena” and were not “allowing us to occupy the arena as originally anticipated and promised.”

“Because of @NC_Governor, we are now forced to seek another State to host the 2020 Republican National Convention,” Trump wrote.

Good warm up for him to have the G7 there. Not enough to profit off the idiot National rethugs, he’ll want to get an international meeting where he can triple prices and show off his property. Though it sounds like he’ll have a party that no one goes to.

If we survive this I wonder what future historians will have to say? From nazi Germany full circle to fascist USA.

That area has a lot of Democrats, though, so I hate to see them getting hurt by working class/poor killer repugs. Wish they'd have it someplace where so many seniors and Democrats weren't at risk. Have it in WV or IN where they really love him and where there aren't so many at risk people. I know drumpf wants maximum carnage and death, but you'd think he wouldn't want that among his own - only he does as long as they arent rich - they are disposable to him.

Tue Jun 2, 2020, 10:59 PM
Jun 2020

Imagine 10's of thousands of people from all over the nation in one confined space all day and into the night for several days. Then there is the time when they are in local hotels, restaurants, bars, etc.

This is an absolute guaranteed covid19 hot spot in the making; one that would spread out across the entire nation. I can't see how it could be safely held there, or, for that matter, anywhere.

You know there will not be many, if any, masks in sight, and close personal contact will be unavoidable...breathing each others air unavoidable.

Unfortunately it's a lose - lose situation for Cooper.
If he allows it, he will be condemned for the tragedy that will inevitably occur.
If he doesn't allow it, he will be condemned for playing politics with the RNC convention.

Personally I think he has to say "no" and let the chips fall where they may.
Let the death toll be on someone else's head.
Cooper's first responsibility is to protect the people of Charlotte.

We are just slowly starting to open the attractions in a safe, slow, cautious and measured way. Many of us want to get back to work.

Many of the changes designed to cater to locals first and later ramping up as it becomes safe to travel. Disney reopens on July 5th. Mask required for all guests at all times.

The last thing we need is 10s of thousands of virus deniers pouring into the area in August.

I’m hoping our extremely pro-LGBT stances will repel them. Maybe Jacksonville. It’s the only red city in the state.

the hospitality industry he would know it's virtually impossible to put together a 50,000 person event in two or three months. It will be a complete logistical disaster at the best and he will blame everyone in sight for it but himself. This is going to be hilarious.

Might be wrong.

Nor hotels.

Say DeSantis wants it in Orlando. Orange County and Orlando have Democratic leadership. Even if the convention Center agreed to hold it with no social distancing rules, most of the big hotels will want no part of huge crowds. Certainly not Harris Rosen who owns most of the big ones in that area. And he is no republican.

Disney will have just opened but are requiring masks and greatly limiting attendance and hotel occupancy. And will want no part of this shit-show.

Love watching how this plays out.

I guess Vegas.

There's several large cities there that are very conservative.

It also has a bunch of electoral college voters at stake.

Edited: Originally thought of Alabama or Mississippi for the sheer fanaticism across those states in general, but they will want a big right-wing city.
