DC National Guard asks for investigation into use of helicopter to target protesters
Source: The Hill
The District of Columbia National Guard has asked for an investigation into the use of a helicopter in the city to disperse crowds protesting the killing of George Floyd, officials told The Hill.
"Maj. Gen. William J. Walker, District of Columbia National Guard Commanding General, has directed an investigation into a June 1 low-flying maneuver conducted by one of our rotary aviation assets," D.C. National Guard spokeswoman Air Force Lt. Col. Brooke Davis told The Hill in a statement.
"Our highest priority is the safety of our Citizen Soldiers and Airmen who support civil authorities as they perform their duties, the spokeswoman continued. This is our home, and we are dedicated to the safety and security of our fellow citizens of the District and their right to safely and peacefully protest."
As police enforced a 7 p.m. curfew on Monday night, multiple helicopters were deployed to disperse protesters. Footage on social media showed an unarmed Lakota medevac craft with Red Cross markings using its rotor wash or the downward rush of air from rotors to disperse crowds.

(4,427 posts)No idea who thought that it was a good idea to hover that low over a crowd. It does NOT create that much of a rotor wash, but it DOES create a hell of a safety hazard for the helicopter hovering that close to a building, at night, risking a blade strike and resultant destruction of the aircraft, potential deaths of the crew, and citizens on the ground.
No reason to do that. None.

(146,254 posts)A helicopter doing that over armed troops would soon be on the ground. Protesters are not a military force. They are not armed. In combat, both sides are armed.

(296 posts)WHO is behind this? Who ordered it? Who OWNS these? Are they still owned and deployed by a legitimate branch of our military? Could they be owned and deployed by a private army of hired mercenaries? Eric Prince has been bugging the government to grant him contracts. Who gave the order to grant them airspace? You can't fly around or near the White House. This very suspicious!

(47,259 posts)are finally getting their helicopters. They aren't "black", but they are black hawks and George Soros had nothing to do with it.

(6,573 posts)...is clearly not a Blackhawk (or "black hawk" .
I can't tell exactly what it is but I've had a Blackhawk hover over me when I was on the edge of the lagoon with my tripod & video gear when NASA was launching a secret payload for the NRO/CIA out of Kennedy, & that's NOT a Blackhawk.

(349 posts)OFFS. It's a HELICOPTER!
I'm starting to think that if you talk like this, you think like this:
"Dominate the battle space," even if that battle space is someone's home or neighborhood.
Pretty soon we'll hear "anticipatory retaliation" for unprovoked military attacks on civilians, because, you know, the protesters were going to get violent sooner or later.
May Trump's arteries clog with the cheese of a thousand Big Macs.

NO MAJOR GENERAL! Your "highest priority" should be the "safety of AMERICAN CITIZENS and our Constitution"! The safety of our citizen "Soldiers and Airmen" is definitely a "high" priority, but it should not be your "highest" priority.
That mentality puts your Soldiers and Airmen above the Citizens they are pledged to protect.
It's the same mentality that has infected our police forces around the country. We've placed a higher priority on "their" safety than we have on the safety of the citizens they serve.
You join the military, or the police force to "serve". That service comes with inherent risk. You freely accept that risk...at least I did when I took my Oath.
Of course we want to do all we can for the safety of the military and law enforcement, but that safety should never be our "highest" priority
Words have impact. Making their safety our "highest priority", might explain why some of them think it's OK to beat and murder unarmed civilians.
It might explain why police officers feel that they can shoot at a 10 year old boy with a toy gun within 2 seconds of arriving on the scene... before their squad car had even come to a stop.
It might explain why police officers feel they can choke the life out of a handcuffed man.
It might explain why a couple of your flyboys decided to put American Citizens at risk.
After all, by your own words, the safety of American Citizens is NOT your "highest priority"
