Attorney General Keith Ellison to elevate charges against officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck
Source: Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Attorney General Keith Ellison plans to elevate charges against the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyds neck while adding charges of aiding and abetting murder against the other three officers at the scene, according to multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the case.
Ellison is expected to provide an update this afternoon on the states investigation into Floyds death. According to sources, former officer Derek Chauvin, recorded on video kneeling on Floyds neck as he begged for air on May 25, will now be charged with second-degree murder.
The other three officers at the scene Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane will also be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, according to the sources, who spoke on conditions of anonymity. Chauvin was arrested last Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Thao was recorded watching as Chauvin continued to press on Floyds neck with his knee. Kueng was one of the first officers on the scene and helped pin Floyd down. Lane was detailed in earlier charges as pointing a gun at Floyd before handcuffing, and later asked whether officers should roll Floyd on his side as he was restrained.

(7,512 posts)No, of course not. Nor was I accusing anyone of anything. 3rd Degree Murder, easily provable. 2nd Degree Murder....maybe.

(6,549 posts)Do you know that the Floyd family asked to have him put in charge of the investigation? Your racest remark falls flat on this one. Sounds to me like you need to do a little research before you comment.

(6,549 posts)Your quote. You are implying that there is racism involved in the process. I reject that premise in this case due to the circumstances. When you make allegations you need to support that with data. I simply provided questions that would help you with gathering that data.

(94,511 posts)YOU chose that word. Whether you believe that Keith Ellison, the Democratic. African-American Attorney General is guilty of racism or not you suggested intent on his part. Do you have a shred of evidence?

Definitions are fun. I also don't recall saying he was guilty of anything. I believe my exact words were "I HOPE". But this is the internet so why should I expect people to actually read or (dare I say) study history.
