Trump voices frustration with soaring COVID-19 totals: 'Cases, cases, cases!'
Source: The Hill
President Trump voiced frustration Saturday with rising COVID-19 case counts as both the U.S. and many states have reported new record totals in recent days.
Cases, Cases, Cases! If we didnt test so much and so successfully, we would have very few cases, the president tweeted. If you test 40,000,000 people, you are going to have many cases that, without the testing, would not show up every night on the Fake Evening News.
Administration officials have blamed the surges on increased testing, but health advocates have pointed out that rates of positive tests are also increasing.
At an indoor campaign rally in Oklahoma last month, Trump suggested that the country should test less so the number of cases wouldnt increase ...

(32,786 posts)Im in one of the counties that had to dial it back because we opened too soon. Even though all dine in restaurants are supposed to be closed. This town is ignoring the governors mandate. The county sheriff and the mayor say they wont enforce. Most of the dumb ass people here refuse to wear masks as well. I feel line I'm never going to get to leave my house again. Why do the rights of the asshole republicans always matter more than mine?

(34,661 posts)Quest diagnostics is the go to Lab and as of last night, they were buried and results can take a week. Out State Speciems are flown in for testing either Reno or Vegas. And it is like any other Business, you burn your people out after just so long.
And from what seems to be happening,Mask usage is only 49% as per OSHA Thursday and Friday Business checks. Which means,we see a close down by Tuesday.

(34,661 posts)Not good, some people maybe half at best wearing masks. What is concerning is,those groups of visitors walking together and all wearing masks of some sort, and along comes a couple people without walking through the covered groups.
Have to hand it to the Grocery Stores,no shit,no shoes,no mask, you are not getting in the door.

(7,533 posts)We were initially instructed to bar anyone without a mask, as many busineses are doing in Las Vegas. The next morning when I went in we were specifically instructed not to do so and to avoid any conversation whatsoever with customers regarding masks.
*As if arseholes hadn't been continually pulling my chain for wearing a mask since March.

(64,877 posts)...an interview with a manager at one of the labs.
Rapid result instrumentation order in March has still not arrived.
They have the infrastructure, including staff, to run over a thousand tests per day.
But, since that equipment never showed up, they're using methods that take far longer.
They're only doing 200 per day.
They just can't be the only lab in the US in this predicament.
These folks HAVE to be behind if, given the right resources, they could increase output 5x!

He's perfectly fine if people HAVE the coronavirus and walk around infecting other people, killing more Americans, as long as we don't hear about it. Sticking one's head in the sand is what being a conservative Republican is all about.

(38,414 posts)Fortunately for everyone, this is an exceptionally important statement...Here is why?
...IT PROVES TO EVERYONE HOW STUPID AND OUT OF CONTROL TRUMP'S TWEETS ARE..
No one could make this stuff up..Trump goes back to too many tests. Repeats a particularly stupid statement.
Here it is from left-of-center's post above..
Cases, Cases, Cases! If we didnt test so much and so successfully, we would have very few cases, the president tweeted. If you test 40,000,000 people, you are going to have many cases that, without the testing, would not show up every night on the Fake Evening News.
And I think that even some of Trump's supporters will see that this is stupid and absurd. It could, I say could, convince a few of his supporters to not vote or vote for Biden..
Repeating a particular stupid idea, goes beyond stupid.
.. It proves how out of contact with reality, Donald Trump really is today July 4, 2020. It will also prove to some followers..(yes, I said some) how dangerous Trump is. We know that already, but this second tweet on this subject may prove to some, what we have been trying to prove all along.. Trump is much too stupid and out of control to be President of the United States of America.
Yes, some people take a long time to learn this, but whenever they learn, & vote for Biden, or not vote at all,...that is a good thing..

(3,479 posts)This week, four national forecasts suggest an increase in the number of new COVID-19 hospitalizations per day over the next four weeks, while three other forecasts predict stable numbers or slight declines. On July 25, the forecasts estimate 1,000 to 15,000 new hospitalizations per day.
With increased hospitalizations come increased deaths, and seven states are already reporting their highest levels of hospitalizations since the pandemic began. These include Texas and California, which alone are home to 68 million people.
Trump is the dumbest, most despicable human being on the face of the earth. He'd rather lie to Americans in a desperate attempt to keep the economy open than admit that states are going to have shut down again for their own safety. It's like we have Ted Bundy for president.

One can take this list of countries and sort it by the "Tests/1M pop" column to see a fair comparison between countries
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries
The U.S. is number 26 on tests/1M pop, though there's a lot of mini-islands and non-countries ahead of it.
A lot of modern developed countries (I exclude the U.S. from that list given its high population density of idiots and its leadership and policies) have lower cumulative total tests per 1M population than the U.S. simply because they had the problem at crisis levels for a much shorter time than the U.S.
E.g. In 1000's of tests per million population (or equivalently tests per thousand population):
US: 111.6, Italy: 92.6, S. Korea: 25.9
S. Korea got control fairly quickly. Italy took longer but its cases and deaths have long been far below the U.S.'s on a per-capita (and total) cases and deaths basis.
So they haven't needed to do as much testing for as long as the U.S. which is at its worst level ever as far as new cases per day -- about 45% above the old April peak the last time I figured it a couple days ago.
Anyway, widespread testing allows us to see where the hotspots are before they get way out of control. Only literal fuckheads think putting their heads in the sand is a good strategy for fixing the problem.
