Carjacking suspect guns down three police officers in Chicago police station shoot out

Source: YahooNews

A carjacking suspect who had already been arrested shot three Chicago police officers as they attempted to escort him into custody on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The gunman was being taken out of a patrol van and walked into Northwest Side police station at around 9.30am when he opened fire, hitting the officers.

Police returned rounds and the suspect was shot. All four were taken to hospital for treatment.

One of the officers remains in a critical condition in hospital, CBS reported. His two colleagues and the suspect have been released, the network said.

1. This happened at the Grand-Central police station in Belmont-Cragin.

A couple of officers were taken to a hospital in Maywood.

9. He was handcuffed.

Responding officers quickly moved to detain Jordan, who was wrestling with the officers trying to arrest him, Deenihan said. Once handcuffed, with his hands behind his back, Jordan pleaded with officers to let him move his hands to the front of his body. Officers said no.

Though officers requested a squadrol police van to transport Jordan to the station, a CPD SUV equipped with a backseat cage was in the area. Jordan was put in the SUV and taken to the Grand Central District police station at 5555 W. Grand Ave.

While in the SUV, Jordan was able to move his hands to the front of his body. Then he pulled an “extremely secreted” gun from his “private area,” Deenihan said.

Once at the sally port — a secure interior area where arrestees are moved from police vehicles into the station — an officer opened the back door of the SUV and Jordan opened fire, Deenihan said

15. Amazing

If I had a better computer, instead of this tablet I could have read that. Thanks. A regular Houdini.

10. It was on his person, they didn't find it when they frisked him.

16. My wife's distant cousin was arrested in Austin.

He had a gun on him, but he wasn’t frisked because each cop thought the previous one had done it. Cousin shot himself in the back of the car. I don’t remember why he was arrested, or what he was going to be charged with.

8. Apparently they did a poor job of frisking the suspect.

He had it in between his legs from what I heard on local news.

17. I grew up 6 blocks South of where this happened.

It's a very crime ridden area now.
