Cuomo calls on wealthy to return to New York City: 'You got to come back!'

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is calling on the wealthy to return to New York City from their weekend homes in the surrounding suburbs, fearing they may choose to stay and file taxes there.

“I literally talk to people all day long who are now in their Hamptons house who also lived here, or in their Hudson Valley house or in their Connecticut weekend house, and I say, ‘You got to come back, when are you coming back?’” Cuomo said at a press conference Monday.

"'We'll go to dinner, I'll buy you a drink, come over, I’ll cook,'” Cuomo added in jest.

His comments come as state legislators and some New York lawmakers in Washington have called for him to adopt a billionaire’s tax, which he has vehemently rejected.

Cuomo is willing to do and say what needs to be done/said, to save the city.

His "personal integrity" can take a back seat, and he is aware of that. THAT shows a leader.

I want to, once again, be able to go see a broadway show. I ain't rich, but the core of broadway enthusiasts ARE. THEY pay the taxes that help keep the city going.

I ain't proud. PLEASE COME BACK!!! (I now say from afar - 2 hrs away, but I lived in Manhattan for 18 years. I will always consider myself a New Yorker.)

gets in your bones and part of me even will always be a New Yorker

For the first 10 years I lived in CA friends would tease me because I would continually claim I was 'just visiting' from New York.

"According to Cuomo, the richest 1 percent of the population already pays 50 percent of the taxes in the city."

Yeah but at what tax rate? We need to raise the taxes the wealthy after 45s give away. New York had to adjust to the way the Feds calculate deductions now. It was a big hit to blue states.

If 50 % isn't enough?

I'm not sure what the proper amount is, but Cuomo is probably right. Companies and employees have figured out that they were just as productive working remotely, so working in Manhattan with sky high rents and the burden of city taxes is no longer certain. Not to mention avoiding long commutes thete from home etc.

Insure they pay the same effective tax rate as before RayGun took office. This random website has it at about 35% for 1%ers, and 42 for .1%ers

You can't mean 42% City Tax and 42% Federal tax plus State income taxes too.

New york Lowered taxes on people to offset the increase in Fed taxes do to lowering deductibles on state taxes. That action, for me, ties the 2 together. Biden has already said he will roll back the tax give away the pukes did, so it will work out eventually.

You can't mean that the wealthy pay more than their fare share in taxes. I don't hear that a lot around here.
