Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine tests positive for coronavirus

Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Thursday he has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

DeWine was tested Thursday as part of a standard protocol as he prepared to greet President Donald Trump at the tarmac in at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

He has no symptoms, and is returning to Columbus where he and Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine will be rested, the governor’s office said. He then will to his home in Cedarville where he plans to self-quarantine for 14 days.

DeWine is 73, which places him a higher-risk category for coronavirus patients.

Ordered mask wearing initially, then backed down. Then had to order it again, when cases started going up, first for selected counties, now for the whole OH. Cases in OH started to go up when lockdown measures were lifted (likely much too soon).

a piece so poorly written.

Even though dewine is an "r", he did do a somewhat decent job early on with the virus (but I am not forgetting the anti-choice bs he tried to sneak in).

Too bad he could not have passed the virus on to the traitorous murderer.

Trump takes chances where he riskS getting the virus, yet he never gets it. People can spread the virus before their tests become positive, so why hasn’t he been infected? He certainly isn't that healthy.

I'd guess the Secret Service or related officers do much behind the scenes to protect him, by vetting people he meets, etc. It would be a major failure of their mission not to. Like the other things the Secret Service does, he's probably not aware of half of it.

It’s a shame, however, that he couldn’t have passed it on to that squinty-eyed, anus-mouthed motherfucker.

protecting by any frigging measure that I can think of, including accidentally being President. We should be protecting our country, not him. Protecting him is the reverse of that. Get on with things. Do what the fatass himself says -- stop testing!

DeWine was supposed to meet Trump. So Trump is actually creating new cases, since tests are creating cases, and how many people got tested because they were supposed to meet Trump?

for the exact purpose that the experts are promoting more, faster testing, i.e., to identify and quarantine those who are infected in order to avoid spread to and contamination of others. It’s okay when it benefits him personally, but not otherwise —for the simple reason it negatively impacts him — never mind the nearly 5 million Americans who have been afflicted and the 160,000 who have died in part because of inadequate testing.

24. Tested negative on retest

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Thursday afternoon that he had tested positive for coronavirus, but said that he had tested negative for Covid-19 later on in the evening.

The initial announcement came shortly before DeWine, a Republican, was scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump in Cleveland.
DeWine was tested as part of the "standard protocol" to greet Trump on the tarmac at Burke Lakefront Airport, the governor's office said in a statement. He returned to Columbus, where he and his wife Fran were both to be tested.
That second test came back negative, DeWine's official account announced on Twitter.

"A PCR test was administered to the Governor and members of his staff this afternoon. The PCR test looks for the specific RNA for the SARS CoV-2 -- in other words, the genetic material specific for the virus that causes COVID-19," the announcement stated. "The PCR test is known to be extremely sensitive, as well as specific, for the virus. The PCR tests for the Governor, First Lady, and staff were run twice. They came back negative the first time and came back negative when they were run on a second diagnostic platform."

Before DeWine got the retest result, he was at a loss to explain how he could have gotten it. I'm glad it turned out he didn't.
