Long labor contracts draw ire of Michigan Republicans

Lansing Michigan public universities and K-12 districts that consider signing unusually long new contracts before the contentious right-to-work law goes into effect March 28 may have to think twice.
Some Republican lawmakers with the power of the purse are threatening to limit their state aid and call them into the Capitol for an explanation.
The way the law works, unionized workers can no longer be forced to pay union dues or fees after the expiration of any collective bargaining agreement in place on March 28. Until then, employers and unions are free to negotiate contract extensions to delay the impact of right to work. But an eight-year contract nearing approval at Wayne State University and one already approved at a suburban Detroit school district are now flash points in the Legislature and courts that could influence similar contract talks elsewhere in the state.
"I don't see how an eight-year contract is financially responsible. I think it's a slap in the face to our parents and students," said Rep. Al Pscholka, a Stevensville Republican who chairs the House budget subcommittee that helps decide funding for all 15 public universities.

Guns, fear and racism: the uniting factor for Teabaggerism. And Michigan has a host of them, repeating every Fox "news" and blaze utterances as if they weren't unAmerican and hate-fueled. We have Teabaggers that lurk on DU; they never speak-up when Teabaggers reveal the depths of thier shared hatred for America and our liberties-this is the sort of behaviour that reveals the truth about them- the actions and attitudes of moral and intellectual cowards.
You hit it on the head.

Wouldn't that be a drastic change from what's happening now?

Imagine that. Job stability, being able to sleep at night, knowing that you're going to get a paycheck long enough to move into that new apartment or take on that mortgage or car payment. Or just fucking feed your children. What luxury.
I can't believe how greedy these educator types are

"You can't circumvent the law."
Bullshit. Repubs do it alll the time. Rick Snyder did the same thing when he and his cronies shoved through an emergency manager law, AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, who had just defeated the same measure at the polls in November.
And yet, when unions work around unfair union-busting legislation, by legally extending a contract (to which the state is not a party), they cry foul.
Fuck them.
