Meet The Press Host Challenges Boehner On GOP Tax Myths

Source: Think Progress

JOHN BOEHNER: We’ve got to find a way through our tax code to promote more economic growth in our country. We can do this by closing loopholes, bringing the rates down for all Americans, making the tax code fairer — it will promote more economic growth.

DAVID GREGORY: But there’s no iron-clad evidence that lowering marginal tax rates is going to lead to economic growth.

BOEHNER: Oh yes there is. There’s mountains…

GREGORY: Bill Clinton raised taxes. President Reagan raised taxes.

BOEHNER: There’s mountains of evidence that if we bring tax rates down, we will help spur economic growth in our country.

The truly amazing thing about the story is that a journalist actually question a right wing talking point. Typically, to be "serious," you have to support the Republican narrative. Look at Bob Woodard.

stupid he appears when he is faced with this kind of stupidity. There is a limit. I hope he will reach his soon, but as long as he is paid by the PTB he probably won't...it's tough to look in the mirror, huh David?

Must say I don't watch the shows, but hear a lot of complaints about Gregory at DU and then, if I actually read about or see an example, the complaint appears unjustified.

When he claims such, tell him to PRODUCE the mountains.

When it proves to be all FAUX and Regnery books, the "liberally-biased media" will still give him a pass ... unfortunately.

He should be replaced. NBC should Sequester him. He's a bully who never lets his "guests" answer. Except his right wing guests, he lets them bloviate.

Gregory summoned a miniscule bit of gumption by challenging Boehner on the "no iron-clad evidence" line. But when Boehner insisted that there was mountains of it Gregory should have asked him right then and there to cite the evidence — just a poor job of journalism — no follow up, too easily bowled over by repug talking points. Get Rachel or somebody else on that show.

Afterall, look at Bob Woodard agreeing that Democrats should simply accept that revenues are off the table, and that Democrats should show "leadership" by letting Republicans protect tax cuts for the rich.

and simplify the tax code while maintaining progressivity.

If we had a simpler tax code we would save 100's of hours
preparing taxes OR $100's accountant fees that we could spend
on something else.

Every year, more and more rules, forms, worksheets, carryovers.
This is Congressional Wisdom on taxes?

I doubt any Congressman could do his taxes with only a calculator.

And don't bring me shit from conservative think tanks. I want independent studies that conclusively prove tax cuts spur economic growth, independent of any other factors. Otherwise, you are talking out of your drunken, crying, Oompa-Loompa motherfucker-lookin' ass.
