Priebus: Huckabee a ‘Model’ for GOP

Source: National Review

Earlier today, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus pushed back at critics who have questioned his continued support for Senator Rob Portman, the Ohio Republican who came out in support of gay marriage last week.

“When someone asks me ‘Are you going to cut off funding for Rob Portman?’ I think it’s just ridiculous,” Priebus told a group of reporters Friday during a briefing at National Review’s Washington, D.C., office. “He’s a good Republican. I think it’s also normal and decent to still support a person that you agree with on 99 percent of the issues.”

But Priebus says his support of Portman doesn’t signal a policy shift within the party’s platform. “Yes, we’re still a pro-life party. Yes, we still defend our platform on marriage,” he said. He emphasized, however, that Republicans must also sound “reasonable” to voters who disagree.

Priebus cited former governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas as an example of someone who could be “a model for a lot of people in our party” in terms of discussing issues like marriage and abortion. “I always tell people: Listen to Governor Mike Huckabee,” he said. “I don’t know anyone that talks about them any better.”

Once again you show that you and the GOP don't have a freakin' clue. Huckabee is a right wing shill like the rest of them. Is he likeable? yes. Does he make sense? no.
This is so ridiculous. Recently Huckabee, on his daily commentary completely misrepresented a story about a kid who stopped another kid with a gun. Look up the story and you will see what I mean. When I heard Huckabee's claim I thought it sounded fishy and so I did a search and was surprised to see that almost every result that came back was ultra right wing, Glen Beck type results. I knew my hunch was right as I got these results. Finally I found a site that explained the story sensibly.
My point is that Huckabee is just more of the same lies, false assumptions and misleading information that we have all become familiar with from the GOP. He couldn't change the direction of the party at all. He is representative of the GOP problem and Priebus doesn't see it.

Not enough "aide" in the quiver to work with all those lemons, but I applaud his attempts - however failed.

Some say $3 million, but insiders I know say much more. The Huckabee house is at Blue Mountain Beach, FL (probably a Santa Rosa address). It is a monstrosity. Neighbors are pissed (most are R/Wers).
I'm researching this now. I'll start a thread when I have more.
BTW: The Rev. Huckabee's Blue Mountain Beach place is about 10 miles west of Karl Rove's swank Rosemary Beach digs.
There goes the neighborhood ..

I couldn't believe it the first time I unfortunately saw him on TV. Michael Steele might drive me bonkers sometimes but at least he has some personality.

During an interview with Rep. Akin, on Monday, Fox News host Mike Huckabee defended the congressman and added that “horrible rapes” had created some “extraordinary" people.

Is this what Priebus means by a "model for a lot of people in our party"?
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/apr/13/huckabee-likens-gay-marriage-incest-polygamy/?page=all

Other Huckabee gems from the article:

Huckabee also told college journalists last week that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt. “Children are not puppies,” he said.

“Why do you get to choose that two men are OK but one man and three women aren’t OK?” he asked.

“Marriage has historically never meant anything other than a man and a woman. It has never meant two men, two women, a man and his pet, or a man and a whole herd of pets.”
