OPPD to show progress at Fort Calhoun (nuclear) plant

Source: Omaha World Herald

BLAIR, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska utility that owns the troubled Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant wants to show off the progress that has been made toward preparing the plant to restart.

The Omaha Public Power District planned to give media tours of the plant Tuesday on the eve of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s next public meeting about the plant.

OPPD officials say they’ve made significant progress, and they believe the plant 20 miles north of Omaha could be ready for restart before the summer heat arrives. Fort Calhoun has been shut down since April 2011.
