'Mole' to the rescue! Alert dog saves trapped hiker on California mountain

Source: NY Daily News

By David Boroff

Man's best friend will be a rescued hiker's pal for life.

A California man was trapped between rocks for "four-to-six days" on a mountain before he was rescued by another hiker - and his alert rescue dog.

Riverside resident Ramon Llamas was climbing Mt. Rubidoux on Monday morning when his dog, Mole, started acting up.

"He likes to go look in the rocks and he kind of pulled me over, pulling and crying and I said, 'What's going on boy?'" Llamas told KABC in Los Angeles.

FULL story and video at link.

Mole looks too big to be a pit bull but I wonder if he would have been reported as such had bitten someone rather than helped with a rescue.

The article doesn't seem to indicate that there was an active search. It seems too much of a coincidence that the guy was out for a walk with a working search and rescue dog. I'm involved in the dog rescue community retrieving dogs from puppy mills and we tend to refer to our dogs as "rescue dogs".

rather than a trained rescue dog.

A good writer should realize the potential confusion.

If you don't believe me, try this experiment. Lock both your spouse and you dog in the trunk of your car. Then the next day, open the truck and see which one is happier to see you.
