Lisa Murkowski Says Gay Marriage Views Are 'Evolving'
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Wednesday that her views on gay marriage are "evolving," but stopped short of endorsing it.
"The term 'evolving view' has been perhaps overused, but I think it is an appropriate term for me to use," she said in an address at the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, according to the Chugiak-Eagle River Star.
Murkowski elaborated on her stance to Alaska Public Radio. "I think you are seeing a change in attitude, change in tolerance, I guess, and an acceptance that what marriage should truly be about is a lasting, loving, committed relationship with respect to the individual," she said. Her comments came on the same day as the Supreme Court heard arguments challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Murkowski's openness toward same-sex marriage is unusual among members of her caucus, save for Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who recently expressed his support after his son came out as gay. But most Senate Republicans remain opposed. When Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), for instance, was recently asked about his position, he responded by saying, "I'm not gay, so I'm not going to marry one."

(3,596 posts)they believe in evolution when it suits their purpose but otherwise you are correct...
They believe the world is 6K years old and the whole biblical story is true.......
Even as a Christian, I believe about 1/3 of the bible.
I think the majority of Republicans believe in evolution but the evangelical Bible thumpers 6 day creationist have such an overpowering presence.

(482 posts)quite a few if not the majority of republicans are going to support gay marriage. Right now many do but are afraid to voice their opinion. I predict some heavy hitters will voice their approval and then many others will jump on the bandwagon..
There are more republicans who support it than what we are led to believe but the evangelicals who control much of the thought scare them into compliance.

(10,857 posts)Their caveman ethics cannot compete with the growing and increasingly well-organized demographics that the Republicans have persecuted and harmed for decades.
The Republican Party has created an effectively permanent and irreparable rift between themselves and enlightened Americans, because you can't be a Republican anymore without supporting a lifelong history of dishonest, greedy, racist, chauvinistic, bigoted and self-serving political moves, most of them designed to lower the quality of life of social out-groups Republicans still feel safe in attacking. In so doing they have made everyone less safe, less financially stable, and less willing to buy another line of horse shit from the same shills.
The fact that fools like Murkowski have spotted the shift in public opinion now means that anything they do now is far too late to save themselves.
When was the last time someone un-fucked you? That's when rational Americans will return to the Republican fold.
