King Juan Carlos of Spain abdicating

Source: BBC News

King Juan Carlos of Spain has decided to abdicate, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has announced.

King Juan Carlos, who is 76, has ruled since 1975. His son Prince Felipe, 45, will take over the throne.

For much of his reign, Juan Carlos was seen as one of the world's most popular monarchs.

But recently many Spaniards have lost confidence in him, mainly because of a long-running corruption investigation into his daughter and her husband.

...he demonstrates he has mastered the ability at holding a scepter and sitting on a throne.

- And that's pretty much it. Great work if you can get it.......

When the coup happened in 1981 Juan Carlos said it would succeed only over his dead body. Several RW generals didn't join it for that reason, they could not oppose their king.

Prince Felipe, for a few years, actually did some work. He worked in the Inspector General's Office of the Spanish Navy under a man with a far more famous name Admiral Colon, a descendent of the famous Chris who got lost on the way to India.
