Father of four dies saving young woman at Huntington Beach

Source: fox8 Cleveland

According to his family, 43-year-old Peter Radke, of Medina, was attending a birthday party at Huntington Beach with three of his children when he spotted the troubled swimmer around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses say Radke was able to reach the victim and push her to safety, so others could pull her from Lake Erie.

Radke went missing in the water and a search team was called out to find him.

Bay Village police said he was found shortly after 9:15 p.m. Saturday in shallow water. The female was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Shocked at the loss of a friend, but not surprised he died helping someone. He worked with my wife, she just had lunch with him Friday.

"...not surprised he died helping someone"

It sounds like he has left quite a legacy in his (too short) life and will be greatly missed. Very sad.

I hope he had resources for his family in case he died. If not, I hope his friends and neighbors help them out.

Been through a couple instances like this. It is just devastating for the family.

What a hero!

He was 80 years old and I talked to him as usual the day before. I can't imagine it happening when I was a kid.

And so, so sad.

I hope the kids are okay... that must have been incredibly traumatic for them to witness.

My sincere condolences to your wife and to everyone who cared about him and will miss him.
