NSA whistleblower Snowden seeks Brazil asylum

Source: al Jazeera/Agencies

Edward Snowden, the former US intelligence contractor turned whistleblower, has said he has requested asylum in Brazil, in an interview with journalists from the country.

Appearing on Brazil's Globo TV channel on Sunday, Snowden said he would not exchange information in return for asylum.

"I already sent a petition to the Brazilian government requesting asylum. So if they chose to offer it I would definitely accept," Snowden said.

Brazil's foreign ministry said it had not received any formal request for asylum, the Reuters news agency reported.

and when not worrying about that, she's fighting for her re-election life in October...So any asylum deal would happen until after that...

I'm not sure what Snowden's "petition" is supposed to accomplish, since he knows damn well that it's legally meaningless and he needs to have his feet on Brazilian soil to make a formal request...

a low point in DU jury history.

But on the other hand, your racism is documented so it's all good.

Being able to work together locally there with Greenwald without them or associates running between countries probably factored as much in to this request as Brazil's leader's stance against American spying on them there too

Because Dilma Roseff is up for relection, and many people (correctly) hate the way the poor (who her party is supposed to care about) got shafted by the world cup and Olympic prep (aka let's kick out the poor people.) Granting swonden asylum would do a lot to repair her badly damaged street cred.
