NY man charged in racial attack on V. Stiviano, woman behind LA Clippers scandal
Source: Reuters
A Long Island, New York, man was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the weekend assault of V. Stiviano, the woman who recorded Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racist remarks that got him banned from the NBA.
Police said Dominick Diorio, 40, was arrested at his home in Old Bethpage, New York, and charged with assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment, and other charges for punching Stiviano in the face outside the Gansevoort Hotel in New York on Sunday.
The attack left Stivanos face swollen and red, her attorney Mac Nehoray, told CNN.
New York Police Department Detective Brian Sessa said the investigation is still ongoing.

Only prize fighters have being beaten as an occupational hazard. The first reply is insulting to women.

(146,262 posts)I edited my reply. I was on the jury for that one, which is now hidden 5-2. It was an ugly statement.

(146,262 posts)Five jurors voted to hide the post. That's fine. The end result was that the community made the right decision. I just look at the overall result of a jury decision. Most of the time, I end up agreeing with the decision, but that's irrelevant. When I'm on a jury, I vote, based on my own opinion and the general rules of DU. Usually, I'm in the majority group in the voting.
I just don't pay much attention to the minority votes, usually. Why those two jurors didn't find the post objectionable, I cannot necessarily understand, but the result of the jury decision was to hide, and I think that was the correct decision. I don't expect unanimity in DU juries. If I did, I'd be disappointed often.

(90,061 posts)Admitted, it would be an amazingly stupid thing to do, but that fits Sterling too.

(16,113 posts)She has her 15 minutes of fame, but it's not worth much if no one likes her. This instantly makes her more sympathetic.

(90,061 posts)It's not out of the question she might, but Sterling is a rich entitled guy and I could easily see him being enraged. Or it could be some fan or something, or a pure unrelated-to-anything nut.

(16,113 posts)but given the story so far, I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility either.

(90,061 posts)I don't think she'd have someone punch her in the face anyway.

Was she set up by being lured to New York by a potential new sugar daddy?

"(N)ot a single credible witness corroborated these allegations and Ms. Stiviano has no credibility herself," said Diorio's lawyer...after the court appearance.
