Obama: 'I Make No Apologies' For Bergdahl Release

Source: TPM

CAITLIN MACNEAL – JUNE 5, 2014, 10:38 AM EDT

President Obama on Thursday stood by his decision to negotiate for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

"We have a basic principle. We do not leave anybody wearing the American uniform behind. We had a prisoner of war whose health had deteriorated and we were deeply concerned about, and we saw an opportunity and we seized it, and I make no apologies for that," Obama said when asked about the controversy surrounding the prisoner swap at a press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron in Brussels.

"We had discussed with Congress the possibility that something like this might occur, but because of the nature of the folks that we were dealing with and the fragile nature of these negotiations," he continued. "We felt it was important to go ahead and do what we did, and we're now explaining to Congress the details of how we move forward. But this basic principle that we don't leave anybody behind and this basic recognition that often means prisoner exchanges with enemies is not unique to my administration."

Obama explained that the release of Bergdahl should not be a "political football," but said he wasn't surprised that it became a controversy in Washington.

how the media and the people of this country REPEATLY, I mean for decades now, let's the right wing play both sides on every issue ...

For 7 years after jackass allowed 9-11 to hit on his watch, you could not question the POTUS on ANYTHING cause there were troops in the field. That came to a screaming halt in January of 09, and they have been engaging in blatent, out and sedition from the day Barrack Obama took office.

But, they just NEVER get held accountable for it.

The GOP and right wing hate machine would have gone just as crazy, sending a signal that Bergdahl was not deemed valuable by his country, was perceived as a traitor, etc.

At that point, there was little reason for the Taliban to keep him alive. They probably would have gotten better propaganda value from a video taped beheading.

Another win for the right, who could then blame Obama for Bergdahl's horrific death.

Nor should he apologize for "Benghazi," unless by that we mean the assistance in destroying that nation and plunging it into a continuing war.

But as for conducting a "surge," in the course of which Berghdahl was captured, instead of ending the Afghanistan war... yes he should apologize!

Or the expansion of the Bush drone war and the attempt to justify this atrocity through legalism...

Or the continuing atrocity of Guantanamo... and the failure to even investigate the war criminals of the Bush regime...

Or the bailouts and protection for the criminals of Wall Street...

Or letting Comcast run the FCC to end net neutrality and Monsanto the FDA to protect its interests...

But hey, two non-insane Supreme Court justices and no war on Iran. Also, when the timing was politically opportune, stopped opposing rights equality for gay people. This is pretty much the best one is allowed to expect?

The republicans bought NPR and you can hear the talking points daily .... and the
GOP and the right will say "look it was on liberal NPR."

Bergdahl is 100% faux manufactured outrage. The talking points are shameful and unAmerican of
this hit job. And btw if they keep talking about the 6 Americans killed looking for Bergdahl what about
4,486 killed, the 50,000 wounded, and God knows how many PTSD and suicides from looking for WMDs
that were not there in Iraq?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/pr-team-behind-bergdahl-naysayers-denies-political-hit-job-article-1.1815280

This outrage is not about Bergdahl or his family they are just collateral damage the target of this
attack was President Obama who has the gall to be President and black too.

There is one true and unambiguous patriot here - President Obama.

The nay-sayers and fear mongerers display a distinctly un-American,

Thank you Mr. President for keeping a clear head and steering the correct and courageous course.

39. Joe in the moring says
Thu Jun 5, 2014, 02:33 PM
Jun 2014

Listened to Joe in the morning online Internet. Joe is confused with the famous words “Dam straight Bergdahl is a traitor” besides being a traitor it appears there are so many questions. For heaven’s sakes the guy is not even totally released to be able to speak for himself, come on Joe let us hear what he has to say.

So instead of just listening to Joe Scar, a little surfing started to reveal something interesting. At first my feelings thought Joe Scar thinks this Bergdahl could be new political candidate for the Democrats so the news community rips him apart. Or, as the usual political abuse this is an inverted Joe the plumber. Poor Bergdahl had his own way to stop the war but Joe calls it being a traitor.

It’s interesting Bergdahl comes from a town near Sun Valley a resort city in the western United States, in Blaine County in central Idaho. There is a special uniqueness about this. Dig a little into wiki and find out this whole resort city is a special build by the famous Union Pacific Railroad tycoon Harriman. Woo woo now we are cooking with some real corruption money.

This stuff is so juicy you have got to poke lightly. Never guess this story turns really cool. Harriman created the highly successful Wall Street firm Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Notable employees included George Herbert Walker and his son-in-law Prescott Bush. Wow, yes one of our Grand Old Party members.

Ready for the climax, While Averell Harriman served as Senior Partner of Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., Harriman Bank was the main Wall Street connection for German companies and the varied U.S. financial interests of Fritz Thyssen, who had been an early financial backer of the Nazi party until 1938, but who by 1939 had fled Germany and was bitterly denouncing Adolf Hitler. This is according to Wikipedia.

Under the Trading With the Enemy Act (enacted October 6, 1917), business transactions for profit with Nazi Germany were illegal when Hitler declared war on the United States. On October 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of Nazi German banking operations in New York City.

There are some interesting correlations here with international law being abused by George Bush during both wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. You mean America has a whole Congress and Senate and media that is complicit to the greatest war hoax in the history of America. Yikes.

Ground zero is Bush treason…
