Texas GOP convention’s ‘Davy Crockett’ calls for war against ‘dictator’ Obama

Source: Raw Story

Friday, June 6, 2014 14:36 EDT

The 2014 Texas Republican Convention takes place this weekend and things were off to an interesting start with this speaker, a Davy Crockett impersonator who called for the violent overthrow of President Barack Obama and his administration.

Dressed in buckskins and carrying a raccoon skin he called “Buster,” the Crockett impersonator took the stage, calling out, “Good morning Texans! Are you proud? Are you blessed to live in the state of Texas?”

“Crockett” went on to dispense such pearls of down-home wisdom as “Never be a member of a party whose name ends with the word ‘rat.’”

“We must protect the rule of law in this nation,” he said. “In the early 1800s at the Alamo, it ran red with the blood of the freedom fighters. In November of 2014, I want Texas to run red with the greatest candidates that has [sic] ever been seen by any state anywhere as we come and make Texas red again.”

“Now, I’m a little disappointed,” he continued. “I came down from Tennessee to fight with the great republic of Texas against a narcisstic [sic], tyrannical dictator and here a hundred and seventy-six years later I have to come back and fight against a narcisstic [sic], tyrannical dictator again?”

The crowd bellowed and applauded as he asked, “Who’s gonna help me do that?”

Crockett's dealings with Native Americans at the Massacre at Tallasehatchee:

We now shot them like dogs; and then set the house on fire and burned it up with the forty-six warriors in it. I recollect seeing a boy who was shot down near the house. His arm and thigh were broken, and he was so near the burning house that the grease was stewing out on him. In this situation he was still trying to crawl along; but not a murmur escaped him, though he was only about twelve years old...

...It was somehow or other found out that the house had a potato cellar under it, and immediate examination was made, for we were all as hungry as wolves. We found a fine chance of potatoes in it, and hunger compelled us to eat them though I had a little rather not, if I could have helped it, for the oil of the Indians we had burned up the day before, had run down on them and they looked like they had been stewed with fat meat.

This picture of Tennessee 'Christians' eating potatoes cooked in the flames of the Indians burning in the house, and stewed in the grease which had oozed from the Indian bodies is one of the most ghastly incidents furnished by the records of "glorious war."

Some historians have suggested this act approached cannibalism.

They are the TV generation who think it was reality. It was conveniently packaged to get to them as children. Like the John Wayne movies. That's why reasoning does not work with them.

I found your OP about Beck and the link to the source material doing a start page search. Appreciate you posting it. I like it when DUers post links to their posts that are often missed.

I'd never seen your original OP and didn't know about this history. Thanks.

skin color. They just cannot stand that a black man is president.

But, what is it that foments all of this hatred? You have a certain segment of society that doses themselves daily with Fox News, Matt Drudge, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, et al. The willful cognitive dissonance of these people is astounding. All they hear each and every day is who to hate, who to blame, who to be afraid of and who to point the finger at as the cause of each audience member's problems. They really don't have any more or less amount of problems that anyone else does, left, center or right. But, the ones listening and watching these Chicken Littles believe every word. What they don't realize is that they are simply exploited victims of the oldest, most tried and true business model the world has ever known... fear and smear. And of course they make tens of millions of dollars every year from it.

I believe it is time for a concerted effort to totally and absolutely discredit these charlatans for what they are; un-American, unpatriotic, unfeeling, uncaring, inhuman, inhumane and only care about their own self-aggrandizement.

Sat Jun 7, 2014, 02:03 AM

Crockett was almost a communist. He saw the people on the frontier dirt poor and with high debts and pushed for a law to abolish those debts. He was popular so the attacks against him basically had to be on his ability to get that law passed. He barely list his lost election and only headed for Texas for it promised the possibility of fame and election when he returned to his old district.

As to the war with Native Americans, one of the reason voters liked him was he could be brutally honest, thus his report about what happened in the war with the Creeks. War is nasty and he reported it as such. He did not white wash the bad, he reported it.

I am so sick and tired of these right-wingers always refering to Obama as a "tyrant" or a "dictator". Those dolts obviously have no freakin' clue what those words mean. I'd love to tell them that IF Obama was a "tyrant" Fox News and all talk radio stations would be shut down and the wingnuts would all be in prison or dead. (Hmmm, actually that's not a bad idea! No, wait, sorry that was mean. My bad.) Anyway, as I was saying, these morons love to act like they are freedom fighters fighting against a despot when in reality they are a bunch of racist know-nothings who have delusions of grandeur. I just have one thing to say to them---"Get a life!"
