KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s largest commercial airport Jinnah International Airport has come under siege Sunday night when approximately 5 to 7 attackers breached the security after attacking the Jinnah terminal through firing and hand grenades and infiltrated the terminal, Dunya News reported.

According to reports, the attackers also succeeded in reaching the runway where firing is being exchanged between security personnel and attackers.

Officials are now saying that the death toll from the fighting at the airport is least nine. Dr. Seemi Jamali from Jinnah Hospital in Karachi has told the Associated Press that nine bodies had been brought to the hospital.

She said seven were from the Airport Security Force personnel, one was an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority and another was from the state-run Pakistan International Airlines.
...
Around eight to 10 attackers were said to have engaged in a gun battle with security forces, according to Pakistan's Dawn News.

It adds that least seven of the attackers have been killed. That's in addition to the nine people whose bodies were brought to Jinnah Hospital in Karachi following the start of the fighting.

One building was on fire, but it's out now.

No airplanes destroyed.

This was at the general aviation terminal, not the main passenger terminal.

The Pakistani Taliban have said they were behind an attack at the country's largest airport that killed at least 28 people, including 10 militants.
...
Following reports of fresh violence early on Monday, airport officials said the siege was now over and flights were set to resume in the afternoon.
...
A spokesman for the group, Shahidullah Shahid, said Monday's assault was "a message to the Pakistan government that we are still alive to react over the killings of innocent people in bomb attacks on their villages".

The dead terminal staff were said to be mostly security guards from the Airport Security Force (ASF) but also airline workers. At least 14 people were wounded.
