US not planning to place missile defense systems in Ukraine - Nuland

KYIV, June 10 /Ukrinform/. The United States is not planning to deploy U.S. missile defense systems in Ukraine or Georgia.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said this at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"There are no plans to place missile defense systems in Georgia or in Ukraine, either now or in the future," she said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in May he feared that Ukraine may join NATO and then the United States would place missile defense elements on its territory.
