Barbara Boxer: 'GOP Cheerleaders' Of Iraq Invasion Are Now Joining 'Blame-America-First Crowd'

Source: TPM

SAHIL KAPUR – JUNE 12, 2014, 5:03 PM EDT

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, torched Republican "cheerleaders" who started the Iraq war and are now criticizing President Barack Obama over the escalating violent insurgency in the country.

"Some of the biggest GOP cheerleaders for the disastrous war in Iraq are now joining the blame-America-first crowd rather than working with our Commander-in-Chief to confront this crisis," Boxer said in a statement Thursday.

She said the current crisis in Iraq "has its roots in an ill-conceived war," arguing that while the U.S. should "go after" the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the Sunni jihadi organization taking over parts of the country, "any U.S. action must be well-considered and well-executed in coordination with our allies and the Iraqi government and military, which we helped train and arm."

It's not clear who Boxer's criticism was directed at, but numerous Republicans have bashed the president for the growing crisis. Earlier on Thursday, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) accused Obama of "taking a nap" while terrorists take control of western Iraq.

They wouldn't be paying it to "another country" they would be paying it to Cheney's friends at Haliburton and others to build and sustain the infrastructure that they would need for a permanent occupation.

But you are right - they have no qualms at all about robbing the countries treasury for their own friends.

- I would have been less erudite and more succinct than that old stodgy Senate decorum allows:

''This is your mess, so shut yer piehole!''

Exactly and repub nut jobs are too crazy and manipulative to reason with. Bad combo. Aren't these the same repubs who wanted to further arm and ally with the Syrian rebel opposition groups? These are the same rebels marching towards Baghdad now. What kind of idiots want to team up with Al Qaida and ISIS? And just to be consistent that goes for you too John Kerry.

We all know that the chorus of Republicans a-holes is not complete without the Evil One checking in. I'm sure that his 2 cents will be that whatever Obama does or doesn't do will be weak, cowardly and wrong for America. They should all just STFU!

I genuinely think he may have been terrible yes. But I'm sure if he were some sort of "special adviser" even from prison he would know how to deal with Iraq far, far better than anyone the USA put in power.

were directed at Mr. Graham and Mr. McCain, in the first instance. They've been bloviating all over the media today and will continue.

The same ought to go for Ms Feinstein. And all these warmongers have done their damage throughout a big chunk of my lifetime and they ought to resign or get thrown out, which unfortunately won't ever happen.

I say get the hell out of the Middle East!
